MATH 10 PRE IB COURSE OUTLINE
Mathematics Pre-IB 10 is a year long course that addresses both the Mathematics 10 curriculum outcomes as well
as the outcomes needed to continue on in the IB program. All students enrolled in Math 10 Pre IB will write the
Nova Scotia Mathematics 10 examination in June.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mathematics: Grade 9
Textbook: Mathematics for the International Student (for Middle years) (Haese & Harris, 2008)

Assessment:
Mathematics courses require commitment and students must take responsibility for achieving the outcomes.
Students need to make sure that they keep up with the work and seek help early if they encounter difficulties
before they become insurmountable. Extra help and tutoring are available at lunch hour.

Communication of Student Achievement:
A collaborative effort of all stakeholders (student / parent/ teacher) is important to ensure student academic
success. In an effort to maintain communications, a number of avenues are available.
 Class Web sites are updated daily
 Marks and attendance can be checked at any time on the Parent/ Student Portal of Powerschool. (If you
do not have a password for the portal, please contact the main office)
 The Auto-dialler calls home regarding unexcused absences and upcoming events.
 Parents and students are encouraged to contact the teacher via email if they have any concerns regarding
academic progress.
 Formal reporting periods include:
o Curriculum night
o Progress Reports
o Parent/teacher interviews

To maximize the opportunities for success it is important:
 To be on time and prepared with the necessary materials and text
 To display proper classroom etiquette and participate in classroom activities
 To complete all assigned homework
 To continuously review covered materials in preparation for periodic probes and quizzes
 To adequately prepare for all tests
 To assume full responsibility for any or all missed class work or assessments
 To attend offered or available extra help sessions when needed
