RE: Medical Funder Claw
Backs
Letter to Council of Medical Schemes
Apart from causing severe hardship, severe accounting
difficulties (e.g. taxes had already been paid on these
amounts), the non-compliance with the letter of the law (e.g.
regulation 6(4)), and the wrong interpretation thereof (e.g.
assumptions of fraud or unprofessional conduct, instead of
proven fraud or misconduct) in these cases are problematic.
Letter to Council of Medical Schemes
Furthermore, the threat of non-payment, or the reversal of
payments or the direct payment to patients pose enough of
a commercial threat to providers that some sign, and
actually change their coding behaviour in an effort to secure
continued direct payments from the scheme. This in turn
leads to coding behaviour that does not reflect the reality of
the situation, i.e. where the patient was indeed receiving
essential continuation of care after hours or over weekends.

Benefits of early referral
Early physiotherapy has been strongly associated with
decreased use of lumbosacral injections, physician office
visits for low back pain, and lumbar surgery, when
compared with physiotherapy that occurred at later times
