1. “My auntie told me not to run, ‘he explained,’ on account of my asthma.” (chapter 1, page 3)

3. “If you give up,” said Piggy, in an appalled whisper, “what ud happen to me?”
“Nothing”
“He hates me. I dunno why. If he could do what he wanted- you’re all right, he respects you. Besides- you’d hit him.”
Analyzing The Quotes:
1. For the first quote, we know that Piggy said those words because he is the fattest one out of all the kids, and he
always talks about is auntie.
2. For the second quote, we know that those words came from Piggy’s mouth because his main focus is to get
recused off the island, and he knows that they aren’t going to be saved when they are acting like animals.
3. For the third quote, we know that Piggy said those words because his words are often slanged, also he speaks of
how Jack shouldn’t be the leader, because he is uncivilized and mean.
Describing Piggy:
Piggy is open minded, he always states his opinion even if no one is listening. He is shorter than all of the big kids. He is
over-weight giving him a bigger stomach than the rest of the kids, putting him at a disadvantage when it comes to the
dividing of food.
Piggy’s Relationship’s
Piggy- Ralph= Looks up to him, and wants to be respected
Piggy- Jack= Mutual feeling of disrespect
Piggy- Simon= Think Simon is a nice person, respects him
Samneric
3 Quotes from our character
1. “We’ve seen the beast with our own eyes. No- we weren’t asleep.” Samneric
2. “It was furry. There was something moving behind its head-wings. The beast moved too-“ -Samneric
3. “The twins shared their identical laughter, then remembered the darkness and other things and glanced round
uneasily.” –Narrator
How we know which quote belongs to a the character
1. “With our own eyes”, Samneric are always together so they address themselves as one person.
2. At that point in the chapter Samneric were the only ones that saw the “furry” beast.
3. We also know who the narrator is talking about because Samneric are the only twins that have been introduced
into the book.
Samneric are described as:
-Chunky/chubby
-younger then most of the bigguns
-twins (identical)
-because they’re twins they’re more shy yet comfortable around each other
-bullet headed
-confident when together
-lost when apart
-identical clothing
Samneric’s relationship with Ralph, Jack and Piggy
Samneric and Ralph: Ralph is their chief and leader; the twins must obey his orders and wishes when it comes to living
on this island.
Samneric and Jack: They hunt with Jack and look up to him because he is a powerful killer that provides delicious food
Samneric and Piggy: Both of these characters follow the rules of the conch and do their part to follow the rules.
Simon from the Lord of the Flies
1st quote: "What I mean is... maybe it's only us" (Page 96). We know that this quote belongs to Simon because
after this is said the novel says "Simon went on"(Page 96). We also know that Simon said this because of what is
happening before the quote. This quote is about the "beastie" but it does not talk about wanting to hunt it, being scared of
it, or even denying its existence. Therefore we can conclude that since there is so much thought and meaning behind this
quote that it came from Simon. These words add to the theme by expressing how the true beast on the island lives within
them. We know that this idea came from Simon because he represents the human nature on the island. The author
describes Simon as someone who truly understands the symbolism of the beast. The others could not have come up with
his idea because they cannot see the true evil that they should be afraid of.
2nd quote: "Piggy's right, Ralph. There's you and Jack. Go on being chief" (Page 101). We know that this quote
came from Simon because when there is talk about a new chief Simon is the voice of reason. In the quote Simon is brave
enough to stand up for and agree with Piggy. This quote came from Simon because most of the boys on the island
including the "littleuns" look to Jack as being a better leader than Ralph. We can tell that he said this because it is in favor
of Ralph staying as chief. Simon can see the savagery coming out in Jack and knows that their best chance of keeping
civilization is if Ralph continues being chief.
3rd quote: "I wanted-to go to a place- a place I know .... Just a place I know. A place in the jungle." (Page 92) We
know this quote is from Simon because it is showing how he is not afraid of the jungle even at night unlike the other boys.
Simon actually enjoys visiting a certain spot on the island. The others wouldn't dare go wondering off without protection.
Lastly we know this is a quote from Simon because he’s the only one who knows what to truly be afraid of and that the
beast is not actually a physical being. Therefore Simon would be the only boy to go into the jungle because he is not
afraid.
Description of Simon: Simon is described as being small and skinny. He has a pointed chin and long black
hair. William Golding quotes "..His eyes so bright..." (Page 57) The author describes Simon as having bright eyes to
exaggerate the fact that he can what others can't (This later relates to idea of the beast).
He is a caring person because he helps Piggy in his time of need. Simon is kind of an outcast and the others this
he is odd but in fact he is wise. He is wise because he can understand the true meaning behind events that happen on the
island such as the beast. Simon is the only one who has not been influenced by savagery. He can see how the savagery is
slowly coming out in the other boys and will be their inevitable demise. Simon acts as the hope for civilization among the
boys.
Relationship with Jack: Simon's relationship with Jack: Simon is intimidated by him, the savagery is shown the
most through Jack and because Simon is the only one who can see the true beast, Simon is scared that jack will eventually
bring out the beast in the others. In the beginning of the novel Simon is kind of under Jacks leadership since he is a choir
boy. As time goes on we see that Simon starts to develop more confidence when it comes to speaking his mind and doesn't
need Jack anymore.
Relationship with piggy: Simon and Piggy's relationship is based around the idea that they both understand the
importance of sustaining their civilized ways. Simon shows kindness toward piggy when no one else does. This helps to
further develop a friendship between the two.
Relationship with Ralph: Simon kind of holds the balance between Ralph and Jack.
Simon finds Ralph to be a better leader than Jack.
Although the two characters don't talk that much they seem to live their lives in harmony together. This shows
the reader that the two boys live separate lives but are able to work together whenever the time calls for it.
