1. This quote is one of the most fitting for me. The biggest inspiration blocker I
have is the previous ideas I thought up. Once I come up with an idea I feel to
be relatively good, I have a hard time letting go of it. I find myself thinking “It
wont get any better than this idea”. And I know that thought is wrong. I
understand that I can do better if I work harder, but for some reason I don’t
let go easily. I continuously find myself referencing back to the old idea when
I am trying to create new ideas, which leads to nothing getting done. I am
working on fixing this problem so hopefully I will be more successful in the
future.
a. “The Difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping
old ones.” ~John Maynard Keynes
2. I consider myself a somewhat creative person but unfortunately most of my
inspiration does not just come to me. There is no grand epiphany nor any
stoke of brilliance. It all starts with a thought, which I build upon from there.
These thoughts are leads to what could be new inspiration! I have to work
with them and see where they lead me. I research and toy with the ideas. At
times I will end up with something great, while other times I will be left at a
dead end. However, I take joy in the process because it leads me closer to
what I am searching for.
a. “You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club” ~
Jack London
3. I have seen this in my own life lately. In the two weeks I have been working
on this class I am stating to see a change. Also, I am currently interning at an
advertising agency in Detroit and one of my challenges is to create a
cohesive, thoughtful campaign strategy for one of the clients. It is a lot of
pressure and requires a lot of thinking out side of my box. It has been
challenging but I have seen, even in the past few weeks, how much my
creativity has grown. They say that practice makes you better and I guess we
can say that for creativity as well!
a. “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use it, the more you have
it” ~Maya Angelou
4. When I was younger I was very imaginative. I played with my Barbie dolls,
wrote stories and poetry, made blanket forts, and created plays with my
siblings. I remember it being so easy to create all of these scenarios.
However, creating has become more difficult as an adult. What once flowed
so easily for me is now a chore to make. As we grow up, we get sucked into
the structured schooling of youth, leaving little room for creativity. On top of
this molded way of learning, we become busier which leaves us with less
time to explore and grow our imaginations. So what was once second nature
to me in youth, I must work harder to keep in adulthood.
a. “Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you
grow up” ~Pablo Picasso
5. I am a self-conscious person that tends to seeks validation through others
opinions. This quote describes my limitations with creativity and life in
general. The past few years I began to notice that my fear of being wrong has
stopped me from participating in certain activities and conversations. This
made me feel left out for a long time, so one day I set aside my fears and
participated. Even though I will never be right 100% of the time, I have
realized that getting involved with certain thoughts or conversations and
being wrong is better than not being in them at all.
a. “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong” Joseph
Chilton Pearce
