French 3 Course Syllabus Mlle Hammett 2013-2014 School: Clayton Valley Charter High School Instructor: Mlle Hammett Course: French 3/français 3 Objectives: The main goal of the course is to continue to build upon the knowledge of the French language and culture acquired at the second year level, specifically to expand the students’ oral and written communicative abilities. Advanced grammatical concepts will also be covered. This course will prepare students to enter the fourth level of study (AP French) as well as provide them with essential tools and building blocks to eventually continue their language studies beyond the high school level. At the end of this course, students should be prepared to enter the AP French course with ease. Each unit covered in the course has specific goals and objectives (please see below) as reflected in the textbook series Discovering French Nouveau!. These goals and objectives also reflect the World Language Standards for the State of California. Textbook: Seven (7) units will be covered over the course of the school year in the 3rd book in the Discovering French Nouveau! Rouge series by Valette & Valette.* This will be our primary textbook, however, additional resources and authentic materials (media, print, film, etc.) will be used in class to enhance students’ understanding of the language and French-speaking world. *N.B.: All dates are approximate and dates and assignments are subject to change at the teacher's discretion (for example, if more time is deemed necessary for students to fully understand a specific concept, etc.).
