Sometimes, but not always, eLearning can be quicker than attending a days training to cover the same topic • Helps improve Trust compliance with statutory training requirements for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and NHS Litigation Authority • Improves access to professional training, for example End of Life Care, Radiography, Audiology, Blood Transfusion, Information Governance • Limited training resources, i.e. rooms and trainers makes eLearning an essential option • Enables a single point of access when using Self Service/Smartcard Access to ESR • Starting the journey to ESR Employee/ Manager Self Service Why use eLearning? (2) • Learners can study wherever they have access to a computer • Self-paced learning modules • Development of computer skills that are transferable to other areas of learner's lives • Promotes self managed learning • Opportunity to provide a blended learning solution • Appeals to areas of the workforce that work non-core hours • Enables tracking and assessments built into the e-learning courses • Appeals to different learning styles Benefits for Staff • Learners can study wherever they have access to a computer • Access to a large number of nationally recognised courses • Improves access to professional training, for example End of Life Care, Radiography, Audiology, Blood Transfusion, Information Governance • Development of computer skills that are transferable to other areas of learner's lives • Gives learners more options to complete essential training • Enables more access to learning for staff who work non-core hours • Appeals to different learning styles Why use the NLMS? To make learning a blended approach Increasing national content to met workforce needs Links with QIPP and Clinical Frameworks/ Evaluation (ROI) NLMS Aligned with National eLearning Strategy/ Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy 7 Increasing number of Trusts using nationally >50% National direction to transition from other legacy systems Cost Efficiency Benefits/ Evaluation Example Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust •Safeguarding Children Level 1 completions in total 3568 (1808 through eLearning, 1760 by face to face). The results are as follows: •Average Time for eLearning (allowing 15 minutes to log on) = 49 minutes •Average Time for 1 hour face to face (allowing 45mins to travel) = 105 minutes •This freed up 1687 hours (70 days) of time over the period of the project (2 months) which would otherwise have been spent away from service delivery Financial benefits of using eLearning (Example) Rate Hourly No of Staff Band 1 £8.84 2 Classroom (Hours includes Average 1.5 hours Out of Office/Travel) 5 Band 2 £9.59 205 Band 3 £10.78 Band 4 Banding/ Grade This data was kindly supplied by NHS North East Essex which compares Health and Safety training through classroom and online methods (October 2010) eLearning Cost to attend Equivalent Classroom Average Course (Hours) Cost to Time Financial Cost complete Saving Saving - Saving to eLearning Hours Individual the Trust Course £44.20 1.5 £13.26 3.5 £ 30.94 £61.88 5 £47.95 1.5 £14.39 3.5 £ 33.57 £6,880.83 225 5 £53.90 1.5 £16.17 3.5 £ 37.73 £8,489.25 £12.60 137 5 £63.00 1.5 £18.90 3.5 £ 44.10 £6,041.70 Band 5 £15.36 239 5 £76.80 1.5 £23.04 3.5 £ 53.76 £12,848.64 Band 6 £18.82 218 5 £94.10 1.5 £28.23 3.5 £ 65.87 £14,359.66 Band 7 £22.27 191 5 £111.35 1.5 £33.41 3.5 £ 77.95 £14,887.50 Band 8a £26.96 53 5 £134.80 1.5 £40.44 3.5 £ 94.36 £5,001.08 Band 8b £31.92 26 5 £159.60 1.5 £47.88 3.5 £ 111.72 £2,904.72 Band 8c £38.85 16 5 £194.25 1.5 £58.28 3.5 £ 135.98 £2,175.60 Band 8d Band 9 £46.07 £55.05 10 3 5 5 £230.35 £275.25 1.5 1.5 £69.11 £82.58 3.5 3.5 £ 161.25 £ 192.68 £1,612.45 £578.03 Total 1325 £75,841.33 The National Course Providers The national courses on NLMS are provided by: – DH e-Learning for Healthcare – Skills for Health Core Learning Unit – NHS Connecting for Health – DH Informatics – Social Care Institute for Excellence – NHS Blood and Transplant Service – NHS Employers There are approximately 190 national courses currently available with more releases each month View the National Catalogue and Courses Coming Soon at: http://www.esrsupport.co.uk/nlms/ 10 The NLMS National Courses Publication Timeline...... 11 How to access to NLMS • Access to eLearning is enabled by the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) • You can access ESR by using a Username and Password or Smartcard (if setup for ESR access) • Passwords are distributed by: XXXXXX (Please use this space to edit content details of how passwords are distributed) • “Introduction to eLearning” module available Further eLearning Support To access further eLearning support go to www.esrsupport.co.uk/NLMS/ where you will find a range of learner support material………..
