Objective: We will explore the theme of Red, White and Blue by reading and writing patriotic
stories, studying presidents, creating instruments and creating American flags.
Materials: Weekly Reader, Book: I am a Patriotic
Teacher: TW read books or use video on powerpoint on all about America. Discuss the Pledge
of Allegiance. Work with class in creating an acrostic poem about AMERICA ( see powerpoint
slide).
Student: SW construct a Patriotic bookmark

Materials: Uncle Sam’s Hat: cut top hat shape out of white construction paper, glue two red
strips to the front, put small blue band of construction paper where a hat band would be. Cut
out of white stars
Teacher: TW read books or use video on powerpoint on all about America. Discuss the Pledge
of Allegiance.
Student: SW glue together the parts of the top hat and decorate hat band with white stars.
Assessment: S participation.

Materials: picture of flag, crayons, sticks or straws or pencil. Red, White, and Blue paper chain

Teacher: TW read books or use video on powerpoint on all about America. Read books or
watch video about out flag and its significance. i.e. colors etc.
Student: SW color and cut out the picture of a flag and attach to stick and/or create paper chain
links using red, white and blue construction paper.
