Work with class in creating an acrostic poem about AMERICA ( see powerpoint slide). Materials: Uncle Sam’s Hat: cut top hat shape out of white construction paper, glue two red strips to the front, put small blue band of construction paper where a hat band would be. Student: SW glue together the parts of the top hat and decorate hat band with white stars. Assessment: S participation. Read books or watch video about out flag and its significance. i.e. colors etc. Student: SW color and cut out the picture of a flag and attach to stick and/or create paper chain links using red, white and blue construction paper.
