West CTA Daily Lesson Plans SUBJECT: AP Statistics Tia Price PERIODS: 2, 7 & 8 LESSON DATES: 03/10 and 03/11 CCSD SYLLABUS OBJECTIVE (S): Chapter 25 Paired Samples and Blocks 4.7 The student will calculate the confidence interval for a difference between two means (paired and unpaired). 4.14 The student will perform a test for a difference between two means (paired and unpaired). IDENTIFIED STATE &/OR NATIONAL (POWER) STANDARD(S): 5.8.6 Formulate reasonable inferences and predictions through interpolations and extrapolation of data to solve practical problems. 5.12.3 Use the shape of a normal distribution to compare and analyze data from a sample. INTRO/REVIEW ACTIVITY: Collect Assignment #16 – take last minute questions on 2-sample techniques as we finish paired tests and C.I.’s today. LEARNING ACTIVITIES: Begin the matched pairs t test and C.I. with typed up notes. Show an example or two with AP questions – there are several to choose from! Pass out Assign #18 – this is the 2002 Multiple choice exam – all 40 questions. This will be due before our test on March 14th and 17th. During the last 40 minutes of class, have students take Quiz #4 over Chapter 23. If they finish the quiz early, they can work on Assign #18. Lectures, examples, AP questions, guided practice, independent practice MATERIALS: TI-84 calculators, ELMO, SMART board, AP questions, Assign #18 2002 multiple-choice questions, Quiz #4. SUMMARY: Closure – IMPORTANT!! Remind students that the last day to pay for their AP exams is coming up. Get that money in now before you forget!! INTRO/REVIEW ACTIVITY: Collect Assignment #17. Answer all questions on the paired t tests and C.I.’s. Answer all questions on Chapter 23 – 25 – there will be a test next class period covering all 3 chapters. LEARNING ACTIVITIES: Today we will finish up Chapter 25. Hand out AP questions on matched pairs test that we did not get to last class period. Try to finish everything about means today. Show them p. 596 in their book. We now know ALL of these tests! First think about the inference – means or proportions, then one sample or two and then decide on the procedure. This page will help you as we do “mixed” inference. For the second part of class, we begin reviewing linear regression. This is necessary for Chapter 27. Take review notes – design a scatterplot, r, r square, y-hat and resid plots. Hand out the Chapter 3 review worksheet and work on the problems together until the end of the period. This will get them started on Ch. 27, which they will read after the Ch. 23 – 25 test Examples, Review, AP questions, guided practice MATERIALS: ELMO, TI-84 calculators, SMART board, AP questions, Linear Regression Review Sheet SUMMARY: Closure: Ask: “What is the difference between a two sample mean difference and a matched pairs?” REMINDER: Last day to pay for AP exams is getting close!!!! INTRO/REVIEW ACTIVITY: Collect Assignment #18 – Pass out scantrons and have the students bubble in their answers. This will take a good 10 – 15 minutes. Remind students that some questions are not in order – 26, 28, 31… LEARNING ACTIVITIES: After collecting Assign #18 and the scantrons, give them about 10 minutes to quickly look over their notes and review. Have them get out their pink and blue sheets and get ready for the test. Pass out Test #2 over Chapter 23 – 25 and give them the rest of the time (60 minutes) to work on the test. Collect notebooks and grade notebooks while they test. If then finish early, they can work on the assignment due next class.
