West CTA Daily Lesson Plans
SUBJECT:
AP Statistics
Tia Price
PERIODS:
2, 7, 8
LESSON DATES: 02/25-26
CCSD SYLLABUS OBJECTIVE (S):
Chapter 23 Inferences About Means
4.6 The student will calculate the confidence interval for a mean.
4.13 The student will perform a test for a mean.
IDENTIFIED STATE &/OR NATIONAL (POWER) STANDARD(S):
5.8.6 Formulate reasonable inferences and predictions through interpolations and extrapolation of data to
solve practical problems.
5.12.3 Use the shape of a normal distribution to compare and analyze data from a sample.
INTRO/REVIEW ACTIVITY:
Correct and collect Assign #12. Finish all questions over Ch. 22.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Hand out more notes on Ch. 23. Discuss our new assumptions and review the CLT. Show new steps for the
C.I. and Tests and do an example of a 1-sample mean C.I. and also do an example of a 1-sample mean test.
Introduce the student t’s distribution and how it is similar and different from the normal distribution. Hand out
the t distribution tables and show how to use – give them t values to look up and have them find the p-values.
Some of this was completed last class as we had some time. Make sure to concentrate on PANIC and
PHANTOMS for our new parameter.
Lectures, examples, guided practice, independent practice
MATERIALS:
TI-84 calculators, ELMO, Ch. 23 notes on 1-sample mean procedures, t tables
SUMMARY:
Closure – Ask students – What is the difference between the t distribution and the z distribution?
Project is due next class!!!!!

INTRO/REVIEW ACTIVITY:
Collect Assignment #13. Answer all questions on the 1-sample mean C.I. and sample size. Also make sure
to answer last minute questions on 2-sample proportion procedures as we have a quiz on that next class.
LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Today we finish Chapter 23. If we did not have time to cover the t test last week, do this now. Also make
sure to show the students how to work the tests and C.I.’s on the calculator. Show them the new ones for a
1-sample mean. Hand out 2 AP questions to review tests and C.I.’s for a mean. (2001 #5, 2009 #6, 2007
#4). Get more practice using the t table – make sure all students can find their p-value from the table.
Lecture, Examples, Review, AP questions, guided practice, independent practice
MATERIALS:
ELMO, TI-84 calculators, SMART board, AP questions
SUMMARY:
Closure: “Ask: How can we tell the questions is a 1-sample mean inference problem and not a 1-sample
proportion inference problem?” Remind students that on March 4th we will be having a review session
during proficiency testing.
