Broadway
The main road of New York, the longest street in the world. It
begins at the southern tip of Manhattan and extends about 241
km (150 mi) north to Albany.
The principal theater and amusement district of New York City,
on the West Side of midtown Manhattan centered on Broadway.
Times Square
A square formed by the intersection of Broadway and Seventh
Avenue in New York City, extending from 42nd to 45th Street.

Chrysler Building
It is a famous skyscraper in New York City, located on the east
side of Manhattan.
It is 319 metres tall.
It was the world's tallest building for
11 months before it was surpassed by
the Empire State Building in 1931.
The Chrysler Building is considered to
be one of the finest buildings in New
York City.
It was the headquarters of the
Chrysler Corporation from 1930 until
the mid 1950's.
But the corporation didn't pay for the
construction of it and never owned it.
Central Park
An extensive recreational area of New York City extending north
to south in central Manhattan.
American Museum of Natural History
It is one of the largest and most celebrated museums in the
world.
It is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York
City, across the street from Central Park.
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
Lincoln Center is one of the cornerstones of New York City’s
culture.
It consists of a campus of 11 organizations focused on music,
dance and theatre.
Fifth Avenue
A street in New York City that is famous for its expensive shops.
Empire State Building
The Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper at the
intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It has a roof
height of 381 meters.
With its antenna spire included, it

It was built in 1932.

The term refers to the financial district of New York City.
It is named after the eight-block-long street running from
Broadway to South Street.
It has become a synonym for the financial markets of the United
States.
It is the home of the New

Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges.
It was completed in 1883.
It connects Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River.
With a main span of 486.3 m, it was the longest suspension
bridge in the world from its opening until 1903.
It is the first steel-wire suspension bridge.

1. New York City is divided into five boroughs
New York is divided into five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens,
Staten Island, the Bronx, and the best-known of all,
Manhattan.
In Manhattan you will find most of the city’s attractions, such as
the Empire State Building, Central Park, Times Square, the
Chrysler Building and more.
Ferries to the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island depart from
Lower Manhattan.
For the best views of Manhattan go to the Top of the Rock at
the Rockefeller Centre.
2. Try and visit a borough other than Manhattan

3. It‘s very easy to navigate
New York is extremely easy to navigate.
Manhattan is divided into numbered streets from north to
south and avenues from east to west making it very easy to
get around.
Buses are handy for getting around Manhattan.
The subway is the best mode of transport to the other boroughs.
Once you should use a yellow taxi. Try and get one on an
avenue that’s going in the same direction you are. You’ll save
time and money. Always remember to tip the taxi driver at least
15%.
4. There is lots to do for free
New York is known for being expensive.
But there’s lots to do for free.
This includes:
• Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
• Visit buildings such as Grand Central Station and St Patrick’s
Cathedral.
• Ride the Staten Island Ferry.
5. Here you‘ll find the world‘s most famous
museums
The Met is one of the world’s most famous art museums.
The Guggenheim Museum is also extremely well-known.
New York is also home to the American Museum of Natural
History.
6. It has the most famous city center park
Located right in the middle of Manhattan, Central Park is the
world’s most famous city centre park.
To explore it you should put by at least half a day.
Highlights include:
Sheep’s Meadow: Great for chilling out in
The Lake: Take out a rowing boat
The Bow Bridge: Famous due to many museums
The Rambles: Heavily wooded making it different from the rest
of the park
The Bethesda Fountain: The best-known fountain in the park
Strawberry Fields: The tribute to John Lennon
7. If you‘re a non-US citizen, you can get 11%
off goods in Macy‘s
If you’re a non-US citizen and you want to buy anything in
Macy’s, before you do go to the Visitor Centre near the
Broadway entrance with your passport.
Once you do you’ll be given the Macy’s discount card which
knocks 11% off most goods.
8. There are lots of specialties to try
When it comes to food in New York it comes down to three p’s:
Pizza: There are pizzerias all over New York, one of the best
being John’s of Bleecker Street in the West Village
Pretzels: Available at hot dog stands all over the city
Pastrami: The best known places to go for pastrami are Katz’s
in the Lower East Side and Carnegie Deli in Midtown
Manhattan, although they are quite expensive.
Instead try Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop on Fifth Avenue
between 22nd and 23rd streets for equally good food at almost
half the price.
Pastrami: A highly seasoned smoked cut of beef, usually taken from the shoulder
Season: To improve the flavor of food by adding salt, spices, herbs, or other
flavorings
9. Even though it‘s a big city, it‘s full of villages
New York is home to three villages:
West Village: South of 13th street and west of 6th avenue, it’s a
residential area with famous landmarks from Friends and Sex
and the City.
Greenwich Village: The coolest of the villages. Full of cool bars
and cafes and shops.
Explore the area around Bleecker and Macdougal Streets.
East Village: The most alternative of the three villages. The
heart of the East Village is St Mark’s Place.
10. There is lots to do after dark
There are lots of options in New York once the sun sets.
If you like theatre, you’ve got Broadway.
If you want to party, there are plenty of bars, and one of the
coolest places to go out is in Greenwich Village.
