ITINERARY
Day 1 - Home City ~ Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian ~ Allegheny Mountains ~ Horseshoe Curve ~
Manhattan: Depart by motorcoach to Greensburg where we board Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian for
an exciting and scenic train ride to the Big Apple. Travel across the state aboard Amtrak’s
spacious passenger cars equipped with comfortable reclining coach seats. Journey into the heart
of the Alleghenies and around Horseshoe Curve, an engineering masterpiece completed in 1854.
Continue across the Susquehenna River, through Harrisburg and into the placid farmlands of
Lancaster County, heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Enjoy spectacular views that can
only be seen by train. By late afternoon we arrive at Penn Station and are transferred to our
Manhattan hotel for a memorable three-night stay. This evening we gather for a “welcome-tothe-tour” dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 - New York City Sights ~ Midtown Manhattan ~ St. Patrick’s Cathedral ~
Rockefeller Center ~ Broadway Theatre: This morning we embark on a delightful guided tour
of Manhattan. Travel along beautiful Central Park. See the United Nations Headquarters,
Trump Towers, Park Avenue, Grand Central Station, the iconic Chrysler Building and Madison
Avenue. Enjoy a stop at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This spectacular Gothic church is modeled
after the Cathedral of Cologne and features twin, ornate, white spires which rise 330 feet. Enjoy
time for lunch, shopping on Fifth Avenue and browsing at Rockefeller Plaza which houses 24
acres of upscale underground shops and restaurants. Other sightseeing highlights include
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Radio City Music Hall, the Empire State Building and
the electrifying Times Square. A special dinner is included at a local restaurant. Afterwards,
enjoy reserved theater seating at a Broadway musical show.
Day 3 – Lower Manhattan Sights ~ Ground Zero ~ Statue of Liberty National Monument ~
Ellis Island: Today we travel to Lower Manhattan and board a ferry for the Statue of Liberty
National Monument and Ellis Island. The United States received the statue from France in 1884
in commemoration of the two countries’ alliance during the American Revolution. Ellis Island
was the nation’s main point of entry for millions of immigrants between 1892-1954. Engraved
on the stainless steel panels of the American Immigrant Wall of Honor are the names of nearly
400,000 immigrants. Return to Battery Park and embark on an afternoon sightseeing excursion
concentrating on Lower Manhattan. Sights include colorful Greenwich Village, Little Italy,
Chinatown, Soho and Battery Park. See Wall Street, home of the New York Stock Exchange
and the Federal Reserve Bank. Visit Ground Zero of the World Trade Center Twin Towers Site
and see the progress of the New Freedom Tower. Late afternoon and evening are free to explore
Gotham City as you wish. You may want to see another terrific Broadway Show or just do some
unique shopping. The possibilities are endless.
Day 4: New York City ~ Journey Home: This morning we leave the Big Apple and begin our
journey home. Rest and meal stops will be made periodically.
