TEACHER PREPARATION 1. Make the Flower Structure Collection Cards by taping 10 inch long pieces of 2 inch wide clear packaging tape sticky side up on 8 1/2 inch x 11inch sheets of card stock. Mark the left end of the tape A and the right end B. When the students have finished the Flower Dissection Lab, the cards may be displayed around the classroom, graded, placed in a portfolio or whatever you choose. 2. Depending on how you choose to present the Questions to Ponder, you may need to prepare a flip-chart, use a smart board, or give a handout to each student. 3. In order to play the Taboo Game, you will need a timer and a buzzer. 4. For Fruit Dissection have: paring knives (if not doing the lab as a demonstration); dissecting kits (metric ruler, dissecting needles, scissors, forceps, probe and scalpel); cutting board; magnifying glass. 5. For Flower Dissection have: Flower Structure Collection Card; dissecting kit (same instruments as above); magnifying glass. 6. Have four microscopes and four slides: (Lily Anther (male); Lily Anther (male) Sporogenous Tissue; Lily Ovary (female) Megasporocyte; Lily Ovary (female) Second Meiotic Division. 7. Collect the flowers to dissect. Use large perfect flowers like lilies, gladiolas, and hibiscus. 8. Collect an example of the three types of fruit (simple, aggregate, multiple) to dissect.
