Summary
Function: Daily management of the student financial aid program.
Scope: Serves the Rio Grande College campuses of Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde.
Duties
Essential: Correspond with students; review of applications, file verifications, award processing;
advising students; assist with development of forms and brochures; participation in recruiting; maintenance of student records
in compliance with federal regulations; administer scholarship programs, PASE non-resident tuition waiver program; chair
scholarship committee; coordinate student aid consortium agreement with Southwest Texas Jr. College; electronic application
processing and SAR correcting using CPS program; administer short term loan program; coordinate the activities of
counselors, clerks, and student assistants; manage financial aid operations at three campuses; insure that students comply
with satisfactory academic progress requirements; other duties as assigned.
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
Non-Essential: Data entry; assist with developing financial aid forms and brochures; process mail correspondence.
Supervision
Received: Reports directly to the Associate Provost/Dean of Rio Grande College for daily operational issues, student and
customer service relations, supervision of other RGC financial aid staff, and collegial relations with other RGC staff, faculty,
and students. Reports to the Director of Financial Assistance for all financial aid policies and awarding processes,
regulations, reporting, and federal and state reporting requirements.
Given: Assist with training and supervision of other Student Financial Aid personnel.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred:
Experience
Required: Two years of responsible student financial aid experience
Preferred: Experience with Banner.
Equipment/Skills
Required: Knowledge of financial aid; ability to utilize computer technology including mainfame and PC dual systems;
effective oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with a diverse population; ability to work independently.
Preferred: Knowledge of computerized financial aid delivery systems
Working Conditions
Usual: Office conditions; office hours 9 am - 6 pm Monday through Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm Friday.
Exempt from overtime provisions. Some travel is required. Position is Security Sensitive.
Special: During registration may work 10-12 hours per day.
Any qualifications to be considered in lieu of stated minimums require the prior approval of the Human
Resources Director.
