BPS is pleased to announce that we have launched a new mobile app for parents and families. Working toward our Strategic Planning goals to promote strong communication with our families to aid in student success, this app will help us keep you informed using the latest technology and resources available. We also recognize that you are constantly on the go, multitasking and expecting information on-demand. With this in mind, we are proud to have our own mobile application, Birmingham PS, free for all parents, students, staff, alumni and community members who want to stay in touch with us. With Birmingham PS, you can check events and athletics schedules, connect with the district on social media and easily access important school and classroom resources—all right from your mobile device. The new mobile app puts all the important information in one, easy-to-use location, making it a breeze for you to access the content you need while on the go, from the device of their choice. Users can also enjoy custom feeds to the district and their local school. You can find our app by searching Birmingham PS in the iTunes App Store or Google Play. Once you have downloaded the app, you can select the schools you’re interested in following. A note to parents opting to use the “Follow a Student” feature on the app. Currently, following a student will provide you with notifications that you currently receive via phone or email (ex. Weather Calls or Bus Delays). Attendance features will be added in the future for high school students. Upcoming Events Mon. March 16 First Day of Trimester 3 Wed. March 18 SOS Talent Show To follow a student, please FIRST use this link and select “sign up” at the bottom. https://birmingham.bbcportal.com. The system will prompt you to enter your information before sending you an additional link via email. You may be prompted to download the Blackboard Connect app, but this is not the BPS app. Select “No thanks. Go to site.” to proceed. Enter your student’s ID, which is listed on their report card, as the “identification code.” And provide a phone or email address used in PowerSchool. Once this sign-up is complete, you can sign into the Follow a Student portion of the mobile app as prompted within the app. 2015 AP Exam On-line Registration Online registration for Advanced Placement exams will end on Thursday, March 19. Reminders POST SECONDARY AND COLLEGE PLANNING Upcoming Athletic Events Schedule for the week of March 9 Upcoming Events *The Beaumont Saturday Series offers Saturday workshops at the hospital whereby so you can test drive some possible career options in the medical field through hands on experiences. Sessions began February 28th and continuing through April 25th. Cost is $25/session. Sign up early as this popular program fills up quickly! Seaholm Bands’ 16th Annual Dinner Dance March 27 The Seaholm Bands' 16th Annual Dinner Dance “Putting on the Ritz” will be held March 27, 2015. The fundraiser benefits all Seaholm High School band programs with every penny raised going toward instrument purchases and repairs as well as securing music industry experts to work with Seaholm band students. This fun event will showcase the Seaholm Jazz Bands featuring live music throughout the evening. In addition to the dinner and music, there will be a silent auction and raffle. Your child should join SNHS To parents of sophomores and juniors: The Science National Honors Society is a new honors society at Seaholm that recognizes science scholars. It provides them with the opportunity to participate in science-based excursions at places such as, the Cranbrook Institute of Science, the Michigan Science Center, and the Oakland Community Medical Examiner. It also serves the scientific community by partaking in an annual service project of the society’s choice and in smaller community service endeavors such as volunteering at the above or tutoring in science. Members will be able to attend lectures from members of the scientific community. Potential correspondence with Seaholm’s Medical Club is foreseen, as well. The official SNHS chapter will begin in the following school year (‘15/’16), however the first unofficial meeting is Thursday, March 19th at 7:00 a.m. in B106. This meeting will give general information to potential members and begin the process of electing officers for the next year. SNHS is only for juniors and seniors, however, sophomores and juniors are asked to attend in preparation for next year. Other requirements: Overall GPA: 3.0 un-weighted All Science Classes GPA: 3.5 un-weighted Enrolled in at least one honors/AP science class during/prior to junior year Enrolled in at least one second year honors/AP science class during/prior to senior year SNHS is an amazing opportunity your child cannot pass up!
