It is a full year course that culminates in a regent’s exam. A calculator and textbook will be provided and the student is responsible for taking care of them. Your grade will be based upon the following components: Tests, Quizzes, and Projects: Tests and quizzes will be given on a regular basis, either announced or unannounced. Most will be cumulative and feature regent’s style questions. Tests and quizzes missed due to excused absences must be made up within a week and it is the student’s responsibility to arrange a time to make up missed exams. They may not be made up during class time. Tests and quizzes missed due to unexcused absences will receive a grade of Zero. Projects will be assigned on occasion to be completed at home. It is expected students will follow all guidelines associate with each individual project. Homework: Homework is an essential to reinforcing what you have learned in class and to help you determine what you do or do not understand. Homework will be assigned on an almost nightly basis and is due the next class. It may be collected or checked. A checked homework is worth 5 points. If a student does not understand how to complete a homework question, they will be expected to copy the question down and come to extra help for assistance. Classwork and Participation: In order to be successful, a student must be an active participant in class on a daily basis and notebook will be checked periodically. Each day, the students will be given a class participation grade out of 100. Attendance: 18 Absences throughout the year result in no credit. 3 Lateness considered 1 absence Participation: Each day when a student arrives to class they will copy down the day’s aim and do now. Prepared with all supplies and ready to work. They will actively participate in class discussions, note taking, and group activities. In addition to daily grades, occasionally, student class work will be collected and graded. Interim Assessments: Each quarter, an interim assessment will be given as a cumulative exam covering all material from the year. The questions will be regents’ style. Grade Policy: Quarters 1, 2, and 3 Tests/Quizzes – 67.5% Quarter 4 Homework – 13.5% Tests/Quizzes –75% Participation – 9% Homework – 15% Interim Assessment – 10% Participation – 10% This class will also follow all Hicksville High School Policies and Procedures as outlined in your student agenda.
