You must have a parent sign off on watching your speech and vouching that it lasts 3-5 minutes. I will take off 5 points for every 10 seconds you are short, and -2 points for every 30 sec over. To clarify: It’s ok if your speech lasts 5:59 seconds; I start taking off at 6 minutes. Outline: You will have two outlines for this speech. One will be a full sentence outline that you will turn into me before your speech. The second will be a phrase or key word outline that you will use as you speak. This will not have your speech typed out fully, so you will have to practice this speech several times. The point of having a key word outline is to help you look at your audience more and read off the page less. It will free up your hands to demonstrate the process you are presenting for the class. Full Sentence Outline Requirements: Typed; Correct outline format; 12 pt font; 3 steps; 3 written and oral citations (italicize written citations); at least 1 citation per main point (or step); 4 transitions statements. Key Word or Phrase Outline Requirements: 1-2 pages; 14 font; only key words and main points listed; may have quotes and citations written full out. Reference Page: You will need to turn in a reference page with your full sentence outline. Requirements: 3 references written in APA format; “References” centered as a heading at the top; double spaced; hanging indention; in alphabetical order by the authors last name. Google “Purdue owl apa” for more help. Presentation Aid: For this speech, you will either explain a topic, physically demonstrate how to do your topic in class, or if that is physically impossible you will use a PowerPoint (or other approved presentation aid). Your aid must be used throughout the entire speech. If you use a power point, do not write full sentences and read it to the audience. It should also be a key word or phrase outline. You are not required to use a PowerPoint. You should use whatever presentation aid form that would be most effective for presenting your topic.
