Renaissance
“Rebirth,” from French
This term refers to the rebirth of classical
thought and style in art and architecture at
the end of the Middle Ages.
Humanism
The inspiration of the art of ancient
Greece and Rome – human form was
the epitome of perfection. Man was
the “measure of all things.” In other
words, in the ancient world, man was
worshipped instead of God.
Renaissance humanism did not abandon belief in God as
modern secular humanism does however, it led to a false
assumption of man’s goodness
Neo-Platonism
A philosophy that struggled to reconcile
classical philosophies with Christianity
