MSYSA Board Meeting Minutes January 21, 2009 Members present – Ben Neil, Arlene Rodway, Linda Norton, Cliff Walcott, Gina Clapp, Bob Deegan, Mike Basileo, Mark Malloy, Scott Eslick, Gary Schneehagen, Sam Mangione, Alan Buster, Ken Boras, Todd Clark, Rich Fabrizio, Mike Sidlak, Ray Greenberg, Bill Stara, and Marie Langford. Members absent – Paul Myers and Louise Waxler. Meeting was called to order at 7Pm. Linda made motion to accept the minutes – Gary Schneehagen second the motion. Minutes were approved. President – Ben Neil - no report 1st VP – Arlene Rodway - report in the book 2nd VP – Linda Norton – $ 5,000 available for ODP scholarships. 3rd VP – Cliff Walcott – Indoor Holiday tournament - 45 teams attended the tournament. Want to increase the number to 50 teams next year. Cliff stated he needs to continue selling the tournament to the recreational programs throughout the state. Tournament ended in the black. Registrar – Mike Basileo – ADG system was shut down on January 20 for maintenance. The system was up and running this morning. ADG has new report formats (beta test). They would like to know what type of reports the State office needs. Attended the BBSL meeting, informed those in attendance of the State cup deadline. ADG – new report formats (beta test) – State office needs to discuss with ADG what type of reports they would be interested in. User Group meeting is scheduled to be held in San Jose. Treasurer - Bob Deegan – reviewed financial report – any questions contact Bob Deegan. Secretary - Gina Clapp – no report Regional Commissioners - At Large directors – No reports New Affiliations – North Caroline Soccer Club - Motion to accept North Caroline Soccer Club by Todd Clark – second by Mike Basileo. Motion passed. DOC – Bill Stara - Coaching Education:-D Course is scheduled for the first two weekends in February. Youth Modules are scheduled for the first weekend in March, E course is scheduled for the second week in March. Application has been sent in to the federation to host a “C” course in Maryland. Location: SAC, Dates: July 30, 31, Aug 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 -NSCAA Goalkeeping course: I met with NSCAA Goalkeeping Staff about teaching NSCAA Goalkeeping courses in Maryland. The Federation does not currently run a goalkeeping license so I have inquired about directing the GK courses in Maryland after getting permission from Mr. Neil, MSYSA President. These courses would be added to our current educational program. The following members have recommended to Mr. Doug Williamson that I become an instructor for the courses: Mike Curry, Tony DiCicco, Dave Edwards, and Mike Barr. Coaching Education Recourses: -During the NSCAA convention we started discussions with “Success in Soccer” and “Soccer Learning Systems”. We would add a link to these two vendors on our website for coaches to visit and order educational materials at a discounted rate. The state would receive a % back from the vendors for every item purchased to be used for scholarship players with in our programs. ODP -Attached is the updates calendars from Region 1 for both Girl’s & Boy’s ODP. (One possible conflict with the 92’s international trip with our state cup semi-finals.) -Arrangements have been make for the Girl’s trip to Nationals in Texas in March. -Arrangements are being made with the phone service “One Call Now” for all ODP teams to use instead of an ODP hotline. The state will be provided a service plan for free as part of the arrangement. Details should be finalized by the end of January. -International trip rosters are starting to be finalized. There are a limited number of slots for each age group to be filled for the trip. The non-traveling age group players are being offered the slots if they cannot be filled by the traveling age groups. Trips are leaving 5th of April in the evening. Virginia Friendlies take place the weekend of Feb 21. Region 1 ODP Coaching Symposiums: Girl’s – Feb 27, 28, March 1 Connecticut, Boy’s – March 14-15 Delaware ODP College night State DOC meeting: Discussion topics:-Consistency in requirements for licensing courses from the Federation, President’s Cup-Consistency in small-sided games nationwide, ODP, Older age groupsSurvey being formulated on all these topics. MLS Super Draft - List of Maryland players who were drafted in the 2009 MLS Super Draft: Round 1: 6. Rodney Wallace (University of Maryland) - D.C. United 10. Kevin Alston (Indiana University) - New England Revolution Round 2: 19. AJ DeLaGarza (University of Maryland) - LA Galaxy 28. Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe (George Mason University) - Colorado Rapids Black Coaches Association Latin American Soccer Coaches Risk Management – Ray Greenberg – One of the hearings held by MSYSA was taken to the national level. The National Adjudication upheld the decision. Good news – adjudication hasn’t been busy. One issue at the end of the fall season – Parent filed a complaint (looks like inappropriate touching by an adult on a child). Mothers’ complaint didn’t hold water. After reviewing found no warrant for the complaint. Mike Sidlak - handed out – MSYSA risk management NCSI accounts – only 4 red lights have been applied. Marketing - Rob Smith - next newsletter will be out in the next 48 hours – any news items to please pass forward. New things happen please send Rob an email to let him know what’s coming up. Unfinished business – none New Business – Tournament teams – MSYSA - does not sanction – put together solely to play tournaments. Executive Director - Marie Langford – Packet couple reports from me. Scholarship report and comments made. Also, President Cup – we weren’t going to be participating but we are. WAGSL & NCSL looking at second tier team – took the Maryland Champion of div. 3 – 6 of the 8 team – 7 of the 8 teams are confirmed they are participating. Some issues – State cup, spring break and international trips. Teams are paying their way – Marie has collected all the checks and bonds. Good of the game.
