SLAY WILDERNESS AREA, INC. 2012 – 2013 HUNTING RULES & PROPERTY GUIDELINES 1) Golden Rule: WILLFUL VIOLATION OF MISSISSIPPI WILDLIFE RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR HUNTING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND WILL BE DEALT WITH!! 2) Pre-Season Work Days: Each member is required to work four (4) days each year. a) Planting dates will be scheduled and should take priority for members to assist. b) A list of facility & property improvements will be posted each season for work days. c) Each membership will be fined $150.00 per missed work day. 3) Alcohol: Consumption of alcoholic beverages or being under the influence of alcohol is strictly forbidden while hunting or participating in ANY shooting activities. 4) Loaded Firearms: a) NO loaded guns on moving vehicles at any time. b) NO LOADED GUNS IN THE LODGE EVER!!! 5) Vehicle Restrictions: Generally, there should be no vehicle operation on club property during the following hours unless it is an emergency. The preferred method of transportation on Slay property is GOLF CARTS during all seasons.........whitetail, turkey, etc. a) The first or last 2 ½ hours of daylight. b) Mid-day hunts should be respected just like morning & evening hunts. c) Occasionally, hunters get to Slay late in the day and wish to hunt......every precaution should be taken not to disturb hunters already in the woods. d) Always check the “sign-in” board in the mudroom of the lodge BEFORE entering the woods. e) NO vehicles on/across food plots OR lake levee at any time. f) ***Don’t go under any “yellow ribbon” areas unless recovering a deer. All other violations will be fined $250.00. g) ***No “yellow ribbon” will block access to Meredith. Please turn LEFT when entering Bob’s Corner to the edge of the food plot. Do not cross food plot. 6) ATV Note: ATVs and golf carts have a minimum suggested operator age of 16. Slay does not have a specific rule on this, but all members are responsible for the supervision of their under-age dependents. 7) Shooting Range: Open Hours: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Please don’t “sight-in” firearms during morning or afternoon hunting periods. 8) Sign-In Sheet: a) During hunting seasons, all members must sign-in for their selected areas to hunt - NO exceptions. b) Turkey Season – DRAW ZONES – meet at 5:00 a.m. to sign-in for the morning. c) During all other times of the year......please sign-in if you are entering the woods. For safety reasons, no one needs to be in the woods without another member knowing about it. d) Sign-in times for hunting will be posted in the mud room. 9) Hunter Orange: a) Members are required to wear “hunter orange” at all times en route to the woods and while hunting. NO exceptions. b) Our elected “Sergeants of Arms” committee – Mike Tebo, Shane Orman, & Dennis McCallum – will monitor and assess fines to those violating this rule. Exceptions and special requests should be directed to them. c) The fine for not wearing “hunter orange” is: $250.00 NOTE: The “Hunter Orange” rule is for the safety of our members and sets an example for our young hunters. 10) Slay membership whitetail quota & legal standards: a) Three (3) bucks & five (5) doe(s) per membership. b) LEGAL BUCKS - Must meet at least ONE of the following criteria: i.) 20-inch main beam ii.) 16-inch inside spread iii.) 125-inch score iv.) 4½ years old or older 11) Buck of Choice: One (1) buck of choice less than 15-inches may be taken by a dependent age 15 or younger. 12) ILLEGAL BUCK: a) A fine of $500.00 PLUS one (1) additional buck from membership quota. b) Spikes will be fined at $250.00 and count toward buck quota for members and guests. 13) Biologist Harvest Recommendation for 2012 – 2013: Doe Harvest of 35 -47 14) NO doe(s) should be harvested on “Slay” food plots after November 30th. Exception being Quadrant 1 which is behind the club house. 15) NO doe(s) are to be harvested on the “Meredith food plots” at any time this season. Exception being BOW or BLACK POWDER permitted prior to November 30th. 16) NO caliber less than .260 will be used. 17) Property Damage: Members are financially & personally responsible for ANY and ALL damages caused by themselves, their dependents, and/or guests. 18) Guest Hunters: a) NO guest hunters during the opening week of BOW season. b) NO guest hunters during the opening week of GUN season. c) NO guest hunters between December 24th and January 1st. (Members reserve Christmas through New Years for family only.) d) Guest hunters are limited to two (2) hunters. e) All guests must sign our “Release Agreement”. Members are responsible for having your guests sign this release and submit it to a member of our “Sergeants of Arms” committee. f) Guest fees are as follows: (a) $100.00 per day – deer hunting (b) $50.00 per day – dependent guests (c) $25.00 per day – all other hunting g) Dependents are to include the following: Shareholder’s Children & Parents h) (We define a “dependent” as still being in school.) After that time period, a dependent can hunt five (5) times each season before incurring a guest fee. 19) NOTE: If a guest takes a gun into the woods, they are considered a hunter and are charged guest fees as indicated. 20) Property Gates: Any member opening a gate or gap is responsible for closing it. 21) Quiet Hours: Between the last 2 ½ hours of the evening through the first 2 ½ hours of the morning, there shall be absolutely NO unnecessary gunfire, construction, loud talking or other loud noises on Slay property. This is designed to respect hunters during prime hunting hours of the evening and morning AND the hours in between so members can sleep and guests are not disturbed. 22)The above listed rules are updated and amended each year during our board and shareholder meetings. 23)Rule updates are addressed at our Board meetings and Shareholder meetings each year.
