Friday 15th January, 2016 L.O. To write a balanced argument (D). Is hunting ever justified? For thousands of years men have hunted animals providing food supplies for people. In recent times, food is proved plentiful consequently, the question has arose is hunting necessary? In some areas of the world weather conditions are torrential, dropping to an extreme temperature of -40°C, therefore hunting is relied upon for survival. For instance, Inuits living in the Arctic have no food supply except for hunting animals; the animals’ thick fur and blubber provide insulation for survival and plenty of food. Moreover, animals such as deer, hares, foxes and minks are pests to farmers in other countries due to the fact that they destroy crops and spread diseases around the cattle. Hunters would argue that by killing these creatures they are merely helping out farmers and agriculture. On the other hand, the majority of hunters refer to hunting as a sport. Many people believe this is ludicrous since a sport is a game between two consenting teams. A common belief is that hunters are doing it for their own pleasure and selfishness in addition, they are being awarded for killing animals and getting better rewards for the bigger, stronger animals which is absurd considering that this is only benefitting humans. In conclusion, I strongly disagree with hunting and I believe it should be banned furthermore, animals should be classified as equal to humans. By Lexi Byrne
