Materials: Students will be provided with their own copy of the handout; I also find it useful to use an LCD projector and Elmo/laptop to project the handout onto a larger surface. Purpose/Objective: The purpose of this assignment to help students understand the differences between Wilson’s 14 Points and the Treaty of Versailles. More importantly, by emphasizing Wilson’s 14 Points, students understand what Wilson’s Moral Diplomacy was and how it affected American politics during WWI and its immediate aftermath. Students can be further taught to compare and contrast Wilson’s diplomatic ways with those of former presidents Roosevelt and Taft. Lesson: This lesson can modified to fit any group of students. It can be used in a primarily independent learning environment, or it can be completed as a class assignment. It is important to give students background information on both documents, and compare and contrast the two.
