German Exchange to Münster Friday 12 – Friday 19 April 2013 Welcome … Mr Wareham (joint Trip Leader) Mrs Carlin (joint Trip Leader) Miss Bagley Mrs Gravely Aims of the trip • To give students the opportunity to practise their spoken German around the city, in school, on excursions and with host families. • To give students the opportunity to experience the learning opportunities from the classroom in a real life situation. • To see what life is like in a German school • To gain an insight into German culture • To make future contacts and new friends • To improve social and personal development • To have fun! Cologne Bremen Düsseldorf Airport Behaviour • 100% fantastic behaviour throughout the trip – with the host family, on the coach/aircraft, at the school, on excursions, doing the activities etc. • Must be in groups of 4 at all times whenever out on the trips/given free time. • No talking to strangers and pay close attention when crossing roads. • Carry photocopy of passport and EHIC at all times • Alcohol/smoking rules • Listen in silence to safety demonstration onboard aircraft • Students are not allowed to bring back alcohol/cigarettes etc as presents. • Please return signed behaviour agreement to Miss Bagley at the end of the meeting. Packing • Packing list given will be given in a booklet issued to students next week. • Key essentials: Waterproof jacket (ideally with hood). Warm clothing – with one smart outfit. Sensible shoes for walking Watch and alarm clock Adaptors for plugs! Purse/wallet that cannot easily be stolen Camera Magazines for the journey Mein Austausch book – prizes for best book. Gift for the host family Food for outward journey 22kg MAX suitcase to be checked in 10kg Hand luggage – no liquids. Money, changed into Euros in advance. Medical Needs • EHIC cards • Any updates to medical information – see me at the end. • Staff will carry basic first aid kits. • A second set of medication must be given to individual group leaders upon departure. This must be labelled with name and correct dosage. Students need to be responsible enough to make sure they take the medication and know their limits. • Form M1 (for staff to administer medication) or Form M2 (for students to self-administer medication). • Travel sickness • Inhalers • If students feel unwell – please let us/host family know IMMEDIATELY, don’t wait! The Journey Report to Group Leader at Huntington School no later than 1.30pm on Friday 12 April. • Place luggage underneath coach. • Departure time is 2pm. • Check-in Leeds/Bradford Airport at around 3.15pm. • Free time in departure area before boarding aircraft. • Depart Leeds/Bradford at 6pm. • Arrival in Düsseldorf at 8.30pm (one hour ahead). • Arrive in Münster between 10.30 and 11pm. • Return journey to arrive back in York at around 11pm. • Seatbelts to be worn AT ALL TIMES. • No kneeling or turning around on seats. • Rubbish must be placed in the bags provided. • NO CHEWING GUM ON THE COACH. Optional meeting at 11am outside main Post Office in Münster – only attend if there is a problem. • Sunday 14 April – with host families. Evening at the bowling alley. • Monday 15 April – in school with partners. Lunch with host families. Afternoon guided tour of historic Münster. • Tuesday 16 April – all students (English & German) on day trip to Bremen, including guided tour of historic centre. • Wednesday 17 April – visit to the Münster Zoo – dolphin show, elephant feeding. Afternoon with host families. • Thursday 18 April – full day trip for English students to Cologne. Visit to the famous Cologne Cathedral, free time in city centre and a guided tour of chocolate factory/museum. • Friday 19 April – morning in Münster centre (English group only). Return journey.
