Cell Organelle Project
The purpose of this project is for the students to strengthen their knowledge of a cell and
its many structures by making a physical model.
First, students are to choose between the two types of eukaryotic cells, an animal cell and
a plant cell. Then students are to represent their cell and its various structures using common
household items such as candy, beads, yarn, & food (please no foods that smell or goes bad fast).
These materials are to be attached to a regular size poster board (no trifold board) so they can be
displayed within the hallway. Once students have created a model of their cell using materials of
their choice, they are to accurately label each part of the cell. A title and the student’s name
should also appear somewhere on the front of poster board. Students will share their model
with their classmates in class the day they are due. At the time of their presentation, students
will also be asked to describe the function of one of the randomly selected parts of their cell.
The final product will be due on Monday, February 8th. Five points will be deducted for
each day the project is late- no exceptions!
This project will count as a test grade and will be broken up into to following categories:
