7th Grade Science Marking Period 2 Cell Organelle Project The purpose of this project is for the students to strengthen their knowledge of a cell and its many structures by making a physical model. First, students are to choose between the two types of eukaryotic cells, an animal cell and a plant cell. Then students are to represent their cell and its various structures using common household items such as candy, beads, yarn, & food (please no foods that smell or goes bad fast). These materials are to be attached to a regular size poster board (no trifold board) so they can be displayed within the hallway. Once students have created a model of their cell using materials of their choice, they are to accurately label each part of the cell. A title and the student’s name should also appear somewhere on the front of poster board. Students will share their model with their classmates in class the day they are due. At the time of their presentation, students will also be asked to describe the function of one of the randomly selected parts of their cell. The final product will be due on Monday, February 8th. Five points will be deducted for each day the project is late- no exceptions! This project will count as a test grade and will be broken up into to following categories: All cell parts represented: Structures labeled accurately: Neatness: Spelling: Creativity: Cell Part Description: Total Points: (40 points) (10 points) (10 points) (10 points) (10 points) (20 points) (100 Points) 7th Grade Science Marking Period 2 Name: ________________________________ Class: ___________ Date: _____________ Project turned in on time: ____ Y ____ N ( ___ days late x 5 = loss of _____ points) Cell Organelle Rubric Area Cell structures represented (40 points) Structures labeled accurately (10 points) Neatness (10 points) Spelling (10 points) Creativity (10 points) Cell Part Description (20 points) Strong Proficient Below Average Poor Contains all necessary organelles and represents each cell structure accurately. Cell parts are relative in shape, size, and arrangement Contains all necessary organelles and represents each cell structure accurately Does not contain all necessary organelles or does not represent a few structures accurately Does not contain all necessary organelles and does not represent several structures accurately (40) All structures are accounted for and clearly and uniquely labeled (36-39) All structures are accounted for and clearly labeled for audience to see without any misinterpretations (31-35) Not all structures are accounted for or clearly labeled which leads to misinterpretations (≤30) Not all structures are accounted for nor clearly labeled (10) Name and title are present. Project is neat with no smearing or markings, etc. (9) Name and title is present. Project is neat with few smearing or markings, etc. (8) Name or title is not present.
