Services: Job Summary and Main purpose:
The Complementary Therapy coordinator assists in the development of complementary therapies and has a pivotal role in delivering the provision of complementary therapies to inpatients, outpatients and day hospice patients. The Complementary Therapy Coordinator will support the
Complementary Therapy Team Leader in maintaining a safe and effective CT Service for St Peter’s
Hospice patients providing high quality, personalised holistic treatment programmes in accordance with the policies and procedures of St Peter’s Hospice.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical
1.
Ensure the efficient and effective system for referral is maintained and developed.
2.
To assess referral forms and recommend appropriate use of techniques/ treatment in relation to patients’ needs and recommend appropriate complementary therapy intervention. Liaise with Complementary Therapy Team Leader regarding any contraindications or concerns about treatment.
3.
Support patients with manual handling needs and adapt working styles in order to deliver treatments in a safe manner.
4.
Evaluate outcome of treatment and document accurately and comprehensively the assessment and treatment given. Enter treatment notes onto Electronic Patient Record.
5.
Communicate and work closely with all staff groups, particularly in the In Patient Unit and
Day Hospice.
6.
To relay all messages to the appropriate team members, identifying those of immediate concern.
7.
Act as a resource in all areas of the complementary therapy service delivery.
Management
8.
Use time and resources effectively
9.
Organise and facilitate, in liaison with the Complementary Therapist Team Leader, complementary therapy support meetings.
10.
Attend CT support meetings and Steering Group
11.
Deputise for Complementary Team Leader when required .
12.
Assist in prioritising and co-ordinating workload of the complementary therapy volunteer team according to the needs of patients’ and skills of therapists.
13.
Assist the Complementary Therapist Team Leader with the recruiting, managing, developing and support of all qualified complementary therapy volunteers.
Quality
14.
Assist in the development of policies and procedures for complementary therapy and participate in the development of the service.
15.
Provide supervision for any member of the volunteer complementary therapy team if requested and maintain accurate and up to date records of volunteers’ professional membership and professional indemnity insurance status.
16.
Ensure the efficient control, supply and storage of complementary therapy resources, e.g. oils, CDs, equipment, reading material.
17.
Comply with the requirements of Professional Code of Conduct and practice.
Staff development, research and education
18.
Ensure practice in complementary therapy is evidenced based.
19.
Engage in supervision and individual performance review in accordance with hospice policy.
20.
Attend reflective practice / supervision group.
21.
To take responsibility for own professional development and education needs and identify training needs with the complementary Therapy Team Leader.
General – The post holder will
1.
Ensure the welfare and safety of patients, carers, staff and volunteers within the hospice.
2.
The hospice expects staff to demonstrate a commitment to their development, to take advantage of education and training opportunities and develop their professional competence.
