PROPER PLANNING and PREPARATION PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE
BROWN BAG SPEECH
Public Speaking
Fall 2015
Objective- Students will construct and perform a 2-3 minute speech describing their
self-concept and/or goals.
Grading- 50-point assignment (see rubric)
 2-3 minute speech (timed)
 Typed manuscript submitted the day of your speech
Assignment- Students will “bring in a bag” filled with 3 items that help describe who
they are. The items should represent something about your past, present, future,
likes, dis-likes, honors, goals, achievements, or wishes. Consider objects that show
your diversity and show how others (parents, friends, strangers) may see you.
Notes:
-You are allowed to use notes or your manuscript for reference when presenting.
You will be assessed on your eye contact and engagement with the audience so
make sure you are well rehearsed and do not READ your speech.
-Try to avoid objects that are too small for the class to see.
-All items must be in compliance with the school rules and be class appropriate.
-If you would like to use the SmartBoard or other form of technology, please consult
with me prior to the day of your speech. I always encourage the use of visual aids.
- Plagiarism in ANY FORM will not be tolerated. Work that has been plagiarized to
any degree will not be accepted and will earn a 0%.
