Spring Term 2016
Science
This term our focus is ‘Healthy Humans’. This will include learning about the functions of the
basic parts of the human digestive and circulatory systems. We will also be identifying the
different types of teeth in humans and their simple functions as well as the purpose of our
skeleton and muscles for support, protection and movement. In addition we will be revising and
extending the children’s knowledge and understanding of the nutrition needs of humans.
Topic
Our Topic this term is focusing on the Ancient Greeks. We will be studying what everyday life
was like for the ancient Greeks and we will be focusing on their achievements and influences on
the western world. Children will look at timelines and chronology in history and will locate Greece
on a map and study its physical features in geography.
PE:
Gymnastics/Dance - Tuesdays
Active Sports (outdoors) – Wednesdays
PLEASE ensure the children have their correct
kits, with appropriate footwear, in school on
Monday and keep them in until Friday. PE
should happen on Wednesdays and Thursdays
but the circumstances sometimes prevent us
going out on the correct day so we will try get
out on other occasions. It is also helpful if
earrings are not worn on PE days for safety
reasons.
Art/DT
This term we will be linking our Art session to
Ancient Greece where the children will be
selecting and recording observations of
pattern and shape using influences from Greek
art and going on to work on related sculpture.
PSHE:
This subject filters into every aspect of school
life and assemblies. There will be a focus in
assemblies and curriculum week this term on
British Values.
Modern Foreign Language:
The children will continue to have a focussed
lesson each week. They will develop vocabulary
for basic French conversation.
Music:
Pupils will learn how to sing in tune, explore
pitch, recognise different instruments and
identify rhythm and beats following the Music
Express scheme.
We will also be welcoming the Shropshire
Music Service into school to do a workshop
linked to Theseus and the Minotaur.
RE:
We will be looking at feelings and relationships
throughout the term in PSHCE weekly lessons
and our key question of RE study is ‘Why do
Christians celebrate Easter?’
We hope you find this information useful in supporting your child at home. We are looking forward to working
with you in supporting your child this term and I sincerely hope it will be full of success and enjoyment!
Yours sincerely
