DOCUMENTATION Two mandatory components of proper documentation are: 1. Citations (parenthetical/embedded or footnotes/endnotes) 2. References (Works Cited and Works Consulted) CITATIONS IN-TEXT CITATIONS (Embedded) You must cite ALL information to give credit to other writers for their ideas and research. For social science papers use (author, year) at the end of each part of a work used. APA format must be used. Please consult your student agenda (page 49-52 or citation websites to find the proper format.) You may use embedded citations with APA format. This allows for an immediate reference to the source from which the information was obtained. Without citations (either within or at the end), a paper is Plagiarized. This means a mark of zero. APA FORMAT You can include direct quotes: “We assume that all forms of the domestic institutions are in process” (Queen and Habenstein, 2003). You can also include reworded (paraphrased) ideas or opinions: When you are paraphrasing, the information is documented at the end of the section of information. You may use the same source for multiple sentences, and then provide a citation. A recent study of the family compared … (Queen and Habenstein, 2003) You may also document multiple pages from a source: A recent study of the family compared … (Queen and Habenstein, 2003) If you include multiple works by the same author in your bibliography, the citation also needs to include the name of the publication being referenced: A recent study of the family compared … (Queen and Habenstein, A Family Perspective, 2003) Reference Pages Works Cited: At the end of all work, a single page provides a list of all sources used within the paper. This page follows APA format. It is in alphabetical order. Check the school agenda for spacing format. Works Consulted: After the Works Cited page, a separate page is included of all resources that you looked at throughout the research process, but you did not use the resource within the finished paper. Please refer to your student agenda on page 49 for all of the guidelines that are needed for proper formatting of Reference sheets. EXAMPLES: Works Cited Adams,P.(1996) War in the Trenches.
