Teens are looking at
• who they really are
• what roles in society they can pledge their allegiance to.
•
Fidelity—the ability to sustain loyalties freely
pledged in spite of the inevitable contradictions and
confusions of value systems.
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as
a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want
to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do
not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no
longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know
that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful
nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot
carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I
do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I
do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living
in me that does it. So I find this law at work: Although I want
to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I
delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me,
waging war against the law of my mind and making me a
prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched
man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to
death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ
our Lord! Romans 7:14-25.
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept
blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the
thoughts of my heart (lebab). Job 17:11.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a
contrite heart(leb), O God, thou wilt not despise. Ps
51:17.
Reproach hath broken my heart(leb); and I am full of
heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there
was none; and for comforters, but I found none. Ps
109:16.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by
sorrow of the heart (leb) the spirit (ruwach) is broken.
Prov 15:13.
He healeth the broken in heart (leb), and bindeth up their
wounds Ps 147:3.
A merry heart (leb) doeth good like a medicine: but a
broken spirit drieth the bones.
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want
of wisdom (leb). Prov 10:21
The heart (leb) of him that hath understanding seeketh
knowledge. Prov 15:13.
A man's heart (leb) deviseth his way: but the LORD
directeth his steps. Prov 16:21.
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine
heart, (lebab) and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Harden Pharoah’s heart. Genesis.
For the word of God is alive and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit,
joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts
and attitudes of the heart. Hebrew 4:12.
Though we want to know and tease out what is
what, we don't know exactly where the soul
and spirit, mind or heart begin and end.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild
animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman,
“Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in
the garden’?” The woman said to the serpent, “We may
eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say,
‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle
of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the
woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your
eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing
good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of
the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also
desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She
also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he
ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and
they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves
together and made coverings for themselves. Genesis 3:1-7

If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it
away. For it is better that you lose one of your members
than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your
right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.
For it is better that you lose one of your members than that
your whole body go into hell. Matt 5:29-30
It’s in context of lust. What is more valuable to
you? Staying by God or con’t this behavior? If it
cannot be tamed, it needs to be removed. But
keeping in mind, God is slow to anger and
abounding in love, desiring none to perish.

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the
first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and
the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matt 22:
37-40.
We end up loving and treating others like we treat
ourselves. Ie: If I exiled my emotions, I will tend
to not pay attention to other people’s emotions. If
my guardian criticizes me, I will be highly critical of
others.
Job 17:7. My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my
members (forms, members of the body) are like a shadow.
For just as we have many members in one body and all the
members do not have the same function, 5so we, who are
many, are one body in Christ, and individually members
one of another. Romans 12:4-5
1 Cor 12:14-27

Can I trust? (Trust is built on relationship and not evidence.
Confidence and faith is in what is what is not always seen in the
natural realm but in what God said.)
Is it okay to be me? Do I have autonomy and choice?
