Basic Structure Notes Tissue Tissues are 60-90% water that is slightly salty called tissue fluid When there is excess fluid, this is called edema and an insufficient amount is called dehydration Main Types of Tissues 1. Epithelial-covers the body and is main tissue. Also lines the intestinal, circulatory, respiratory, and urinary tracts. Also forms some of body glands 2. Connective- is the supporting fabric of organs a. Hard- cartilage and bone (osseous tissue) b. Softi. adipose (fat) ii. fibrous connective tissue like ligaments and tendons iii. liquid- like blood and lymph (vascular tissue) 3. Nerve- special cells called neurons 4. Muscle tissue- produce power and movement a. Skeletal b. Cardiac c. Visceral or smooth (in walls of vessels)
