O morning star
We sing our opening hymn:
O Morning Star
LH: 147
CAL: 293
Philipp Nicolai (1665 – 1608)
Tr. H.F.W, Proeve
O morning star
1. O Morning Star so bright and fair,
With grace and truth beyond
compare,
Thou art the king of heaven.
O David’s Son, of Jacob’s line,
Thou root of Jesse, bridegroom
mine,
To Thee my heart is given:
O morning star
Precious,
Gracious,
All-victorious,
Fair and glorious,
Rich in blessing,
Might and majesty possessing.
O morning star
2. Thou, mighty Father, in Thy Son
Didst love me, ere Thou hadst begun
To lay this world’s foundation.
Thy Son hath called me to His side,
He is my treasure, I His bride;
I fear no tribulation.
O morning star
Praise Him!
Praise Him!
Where He liveth
There He giveth
Life eternal:
Sing, my heart, with joy supernal.
O morning star
3. What joy is mine, for grief is past;
The Lord I love is first and last,
The ending and beginning;
I know that I shall surely rise
To be with Him in Paradise,
Eternal glory winning.
O morning star
Amen,
Amen,
Come, my treasure,
Crown and pleasure!
With deep yearning,
Lord, I look for Thy returning.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: Friends in Christ:
Let us confess our sins to God our
Father and ask him in the name of
our Lord Jesus to forgive us.
C: We confess that we are born in
bondage to sin
And cannot free ourselves.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
We have sinned against you in
thought, word, and deed,
By what we have done
And by what we have failed to do.
We have not loved you with our
whole heart,
And we have not loved our
neighbour as ourselves.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
We deserve your eternal
punishment.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ,
Have mercy on us and forgive us.
Amen.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: As a called and ordained servant of
the word, I announce the grace of
God to all of you. On behalf of my
Lord Jesus Christ, and by his
command, I forgive the sins of all of
you who repent and believe, in the
name of the Father and of the Son †
and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
Liturgy of the Word
GREETING
M: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
M: Let us pray for confidence in the
Day of Judgment.
C: Merciful Saviour, you have taught
us that those who believe in you
will not be condemned, but have
already passed from death to life.
Give us faith in your forgiveness, so
that we fearlessly wait for the time
when you set us completely free.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
For you live and reign with the
Father and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and forever.
Amen.
1ST READING
The last day of the church year
Day of the Fulfilment
(also known as 'Christ the King')
2 Samuel 23:1-7
The last words of David
2 samuel 23: 1-7
R: The First Reading for the Last Day
of the Church Year, Day of the
Fulfilment also known as Christ the
King is written in 2nd Samuel, Chapter
23 beginning at verse 1.
These are the last words of David the
son of Jesse. The God of Jacob
chose David and made him a great
king.
2 samuel 23: 1-7
The Mighty God of Israel loved him.
When God told him to speak, David
said: 2The Spirit of the LORD has told
me what to say. 3Our Mighty Rock, the
God of Jacob, told me. "A ruler who
obeys God and does right 4is like the
sunrise on a cloudless day, or like rain
that sparkles on the grass."
2 samuel 23: 1-7
5I
have ruled this way, and God will
never break his promise to me. God's
promise is complete and unchanging;
he will always help me and give me
what I hope for. 6But evil people are
pulled up like thornbushes.
2 samuel 23: 1-7
They are not dug up by hand, 7but
with a sharp spear and are burned on
the spot.
This is the Word of the Lord

SECOND READING
Revelation 1:4b-8
Christ is coming on the clouds
R: The second Reading is written in
the First Chapter of Revelation
beginning at verse 4b.
Revelation 1: 4b – 8 cev
I pray that you will be blessed with
kindness and peace from God, who is
and was and is coming. May you
receive kindness and peace from the
seven spirits before the throne of
God. 5May kindness and peace be
yours from Jesus Christ, the faithful
witness.
Revelation 1: 4b – 8 cev
Jesus was the first to conquer death,
and he is the ruler of all earthly kings.
Christ loves us, and by his blood he set
us free from our sins. 6He lets us rule
as kings and serve God his Father as
priests. To him be glory and power
forever and ever! Amen. 7Look! He is
coming with the clouds.
Revelation 1: 4b – 8 cev
Everyone will see him, even the ones
who stuck a sword through him. All
people on earth will weep because of
him. Yes, it will happen! Amen. 8The
Lord God says, "I am Alpha and
Omega, the one who is and was and is
coming. I am God All-Powerful!“ This is
the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God .
gospel
John 5:21-29
The Son's authority to judge and to save
M: The Holy Gospel is written in
Chapter 5 of the gospel according to
St John beginning at verse 21.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
John 5: 21 – 29 CEV
1Just
as the Father raises the dead
and gives life, so the Son gives life to
anyone he wants to.
22The Father doesn't judge anyone, but
he has made his Son the judge of
everyone. 23The Father wants all
people to honour the Son as much as
they honour him.
John 5: 21 – 29 CEV
When anyone refuses to honour the
Son, that is the same as refusing to
honour the Father who sent him. 24I
tell you for certain that everyone who
hears my message and has faith in the
one who sent me has eternal life and
will never be condemned. They have
already gone from death to life.
John 5: 21 – 29 CEV
25I
tell you for certain that the time will
come, and it is already here, when all
of the dead will hear the voice of the
Son of God. And those who listen to it
will live! 26The Father has the power to
give life, and he has given that same
power to the Son. 27And he has given
his Son the right to judge everyone,
because he is the Son of Man.
John 5: 21 – 29 CEV
28Don't
be surprised! The time will
come when all of the dead will hear the
voice of the Son of Man, 29and they
will come out of their graves. Everyone
who has done good things will rise to
life, but everyone who has done evil
things will rise and be condemned.
This is the Gospel of the Lord
C: Praise to you on Christ.
PRAYER AFTER THE GOSPEL
M: Thank you, Lord Jesus,
for giving life to all who believe in you.
Help us to listen to you and have faith.
C: Amen.

Christopher Wordsworth (1807-1885)
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
1. Hearts to heaven and voices raise;
Sing to God a hymn of gladness,
Sing to God a hymn of praise;
He who on the cross a victim
For the world’s salvation bled,
Jesus Christ, the king of glory,
Now is risen from the dead
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
2. Christ is risen, Christ the first-fruits
Of the holy harvest field,
Which will all its full abundance
At His second coming yield;
Then the golden ears of harvest
Will their heads before Him wave,
Ripened by His glorious sunshine,
From the furrows of the grave.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
3. Christ is risen, we are risen;
Shed upon us heavenly grace,
Rain and dew and gleams of glory
From the brightness of Thy face;
That we, Lord, with hearts in heaven,
Here on earth may fruitful be,
And by angel-hands be gathered,
And be ever safe with Thee.
Hallelujah, hallelujah!
4. Hallelujah, hallelujah!
Glory be to God on high;
Hallelujah to the Saviour,
Who has gained the victory;
Hallelujah to the Spirit,
Fount of love and sanctity;
Hallelujah, hallelujah
To the Triune Majesty!

To God be the glory
1. To God be the glory, great things
he has done!
So loved he the world that the gave us
his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for
sin,
and opened the life-gate that all may
go in!
To God be the glory
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus
the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he
has done!
To God be the glory
2. O perfect redemption, the purchase
of blood,
to every believer the promise of God!
And every offender who truly believes,
that moment from Jesus a pardon
receives:
To God be the glory
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus
the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he
has done!
To God be the glory
3. Great things he has taught us, great
things he has done,
and great our rejoicing through Jesus
the Son;
but purer, and higher, and greater will
be
our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus
we see:
To God be the glory
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus
the Son,
and give him the glory, great things he
has done!
