2015 – ASAA Cross Country Championships Hosted by Spirit River Regional Academy at Wapiti Nordic Ski Trails in Grande Prairie DATE: Saturday October 17th VENUE: Grande Prairie Wapiti Ski Trails – Biathlon Stadium MEET DIRECTOR: Blaine Riding / Erin Connell – SRRA Staff Directors Bill Corcoran – Course Director Lynn Connell - Meet Director - connell_lynn@hotmail.com LOCATION: Grande Prairie Wapiti Nordic Center The Nordic Center is located 8 km south of Grande Prairie on Hwy 40. Turn right on TWP Road 704 (across from Camp Tamarack), then left at the T intersection, and follow the paved road 1.2 km to the race site. COURSE: The course is the same course used for the 2005 ASAA Provincials. A long loop (3km) and a short loop (the first 2km of the long loop) will be used. The course is on xc ski trails (grass, trails, sand, a few roots) and contains a number of short and long hills. EVENTS: Three race classifications for males and females JUNIOR: Under 16 as of September 1st, 2015 INTERMEDIATE: Under 17 as of September 1st, 2015 SENIOR: Under 19 as of September 1st, 2015 ACCOMODATIONS: It is strongly recommend that all traveling participants stay in Grande Prairie To secure hotel rooms, book before September 18. Gimmics will also be on location at this time. 8:30 am 9:00 am 9:30 am 10:15 am 10:30 am 11:00 am 11:30 am 12:15 pm 1:00 pm 1:45 pm 2:30 pm Registration Walk through until 10:15 am Coaches Meeting Opening Ceremonies Para Race – 3 km Junior Women – 3km Senior Men – 6 km Intermediate Women – 4 km Senior Women – 4 km Junior Men – 4 km Intermediate Men – 5 km COACHES MEETING: There will be a pre-competition meeting for all Zone coaches at 9:30 on Saturday, October 17th and will be run in accordance with the ASAA Cross Country Policy and Procedures. The meeting will take place in the Nordic Center’s maintenance shed. This is a mandatory meeting for zone coaches. RESULTS: Results Canada will be responsible for all the timing operations. This race will be “chip timed”. Chips are attached to each athlete’s bib number. Chips must be worn for the duration of the race. Crossing the finish line without a chip will constitute a disqualification. Do not fold or bend the bibs as this will damage the activation strip. Results will be posted as soon as possible after each race near The Timing Tower. Individual race results and classification school point totals will be posted throughout the day. Final results can be accessed by going to the cross – country host website. Page | 3 2015 – ASAA Cross Country Championships Hosted by Spirit River Regional Academy at Wapiti Nordic Ski Trails in Grande Prairie AWARDS: Immediately after each race the top 3 finishers will be presented with ASAA medals and places 4 through 10 will receive a place ribbon. Photos will be taken of the top 10 finishers of each race and individual photos of each race’s winner. Following the competition, the top 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A school teams will be presented with an ASAA provincial banner and plaque, toques. Teams placing 2nd and 3rd will receive a small keeper plaques. These presentations will be made as soon as possible after the completion of the final race of the day. MEDICAL: First Aid will be on site and located near the start /finish area. RACE RULES: ATHLETES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WEAR AND/OR USE ANY FORM OF AUDIO DEVICE WHILE COMPETING. No iPods, MP3 players or any other device that requires headphones will be allowed to be worn during the ASAA Provincial Cross Country Meet SOUVENIRS: Gimmics will be on site selling souvenir apparel in the equipment / maintenance shed.
