The course will place heavy emphasis on selflearning, so that students can get the most from the classes and the management lessons will stay with them the rest of their lives. Course Syllabus: 1. Understanding the four essential functions such as Planning, Organising, Leading and Controlling; the role of a manager. This course will focus on Planning, Organising and Leading functions. 2. Understanding the organisational environment – The external business environment has changed very dramatically over the past decade. The Internet and the IT revolution have effectively changed the way organizations conduct their business. Students need to appreciate the latest development in the external environment order to better manage their organisations. 3. Planning – This involves the setting of corporate goals and objectives; students will be taught how to set goals that are motivational for organizational members. 4. Organising – This involves the way tasks will be broken down into components, and the components assigned to different departments and how work needs to be coordinated in order for the organisation to function effectively and efficiently. 5. Leading: This involves the way the leaders of an organisation motivates, communicates and deal with the human factor in the running of an organisation. 6. We will also look at the alignment between an organisation’s goals, strategies, organizational design/structure and other processes in order to facilitate organizational effectiveness.
