In this poem, Ovid tells many mythological stories, focusing on changes in form. He is clever, creative, heart-breaking, and just down-right amazing. The Metamorphoses is one of the most influential works of all time. For this project, you will research the influence of one story from the Metamorphoses. Your presentation should include: 1. Primary Source – Ovid Book ____ lines ______ to ______. 2. English summary of the story a. Must be in your own words. b. Poetryintranslation.com has good translations (Click Latin, Ovid, Metamorphoses, then find your myth). 3. Pictures of at least 3 works of art (painting, sculpture) that depict your myth. a. Provide the title, artist, date, and location (what museum it’s in) for each work. b. Try to find a good, high resolution image. c. Your presentation needs to include a comment on the effectiveness of the work (Why did the artist choose that moment in the story? How is the piece different from Ovid? What emotions does it evoke?
