To create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and
revisit ideas.
FIELDTRIP to beach, children sketch beach scenes ARTISTS: Seascape painting by British
Artist John Morris
Marine Paintings by British Artist Richard DACK
 to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing
Children can complete a study of sketching shells(boxes in art room) link with line, tone, shade
Type in British artists that paint sea shells on google search.

They produce a mixed-media work, combining drawing, painting, collage and print-making techniques

 to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting
and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]
Children will the rainforest and look at its wide eco system of animals/flaura and forna. They
will sketch one of these in detail using pencils then reproduce this in charcoal or paint.
Children can move on to making 3D Rainforest dioramas

 to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting
and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]
Children study early “mark makers” and look at how they relayed the world to each other.

Children use sketch books to compare life then and now using the same style stick drawings. Children should be
encouraged to draw with a variety of implements such as cocktail sticks/tooth brushes/pencils / sticks etc.

LINKS WITH HISTORY TOPIC: WHY SHOULD WE REMEMBER THE MAYA?
 Children will be taught about great artists, architects and designers in history. Children to
study Maya buildings and to find
Out how they were built using only basic tools and shells. Children will build their own temple using a
variety of materials.
They will first sketch their design, edit it and work out what materials they will need in order to produce this
temple.

LINKS WITH HISTORY TOPIC: WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THE ROMANS CAME?
 Children will be taught about great artists, architects and designers in history. Children will
look at Roman buildings and learn about their features.( the arch, the dome and the vault, as well
as the use of concrete)Roman engineers designed and built some of the greatest public buildings in
the history of architecture, including temples, basilicas, amphitheatres, triumphal arches, monuments, and public
baths. Roman architects designed numerous aqueducts, drainage systems, and bridges, as well as a vast network
of roads, while planners developed a series of urban blueprints, based on army camps, to help create new towns
from scratch.

LINKS WITH HISTORY TOPIC: WOULD THE VIKINGS DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY?
Children will be taught to: create sketch books to record their observations and use them to
review and revisit ideas  to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing,
painting and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]
Children will study, design, draw a Viking ship. Ships will be painted, made into 3D models.
Children can be introduced to skeldeboards. (Shields)
Children can also study images of Vikings online and produce sketches in
their sketch books.
