How does the IB look at Palmer?
• Authorized by the IB in 1991 (Diploma) and 1998
(MYP, with North Middle School)
• A magnet for the entire Pikes Peak region
• Full complement of IB classes grades 9 – 12
– MYP classes
– MYP honors classes
– A combination of the two
• Students fully integrated into athletics, clubs and
electives at Palmer.
• Diploma graduation rate exceeds the world avg
How are we changing?
• Palmer MYP no longer offers a “one size fits all”
program restricted solely by academic
performance.
• 9th and 10th grade course selections aim to provide
appropriate rigor for a range of academic
abilities.
• Honors level: based on evidence of above gradelevel work, demonstrated student motivation,
independence in learning, complexity of content
Inside an MYP Classroom
• These are traits common to all MYP
classes, regardless of whether they are
instructed at an honors or grade-level.
Testimonials…
• “IB has really stretched my mind!”
• “I would encourage you to participate in the IB MYP
because it is a rigorous program. When I am
challenged I do my best work.”

with teachers that will strive to help you learn.”
• “IB MYP is a great program that has challenged me
throughout the year.”
• “Even though I have been in this program for only a
couple months, I am already attached.”
• The teachers in the IB program will work with you
one-on-one if you are struggling with something.
