Service Definition: Digital Platform
The Digital Platform (Common Digital Platform™) from CDG is a revolutionary Platform-as-aService (PaaS) initiative, which offers large organisations a quicker and easier path to digital
transformation. In short, it simplifies the creation of next generation digital services while
extracting all the great value held in existing data and technology resources. Think of it as
an agile service layer that builds a bridge between old and new.
It comprises an integrated suite of open-source and open standard software components
that help large and complex organisations to rapidly launch and integrate a
comprehensive digital services capability.
The Common Digital PlatformTM provides the capability to:

Exploit market opportunities through the rapid and agile provision of future proofed
multi-channel digital services

Integrate in to heritage systems –enabling existing assets to realise their value in the
digital world.

Support richer and faster business insight and analysis through Total View of Business
(TVOB)

Eliminate data silos and data fragmentation

Deliver breadth of functionality, choice and affordability through adoption of the most
effective blend of enterprise class open source and vendor provided software
components

Harness cloud scale technologies and processes ‘as a service’ meeting critical
demand peaks.
Benefits of the Common Digital PlatformTM
The Common Digital PlatformTM provides the following benefits to government
organisations that need to rapidly develop a flexible and effective digital capability:

Common, shared and reusable services (cost and complexity reduction)

Consistent user experience across multiple market channels and services

Flexible digital service scalability to meet sudden demand peaks

Future proofed – open source and open standards mean no proprietary system lock in

Service risk reduction and business continuity through almost instant stand up of a
duplicate digital service instance

Ease of integration to existing heritage systems

Commercial value attributable to shared and re-usable services and use of proven
open-source software wherever possible.

Delivery of Digital by Default Service Standard compliant applications to end users
Common Digital PlatformTM Outcomes
Develop a service-based digital platform - quickly, easily and cost effectively.
The Common Digital PlatformTM will enable any government department to embrace new
and emerging technologies, while making the most of and complementing the existing
legacy infrastructure in use today. As a result, customer-facing digital services will be
developed and deployed faster. Costs will be reduced and value enhanced because the
Common Digital PlatformTM embraces an extensive ecosystem of open source and open
standards software components to deliver much of the required functionality. Platform
components have 're-usability' built in which enhances value through sharing and re-use.
The Common Digital PlatformTM provides:

A centralised and modular digital service platform that integrates with government
department’s existing technology infrastructure

The ability to launch digital customer services quickly with the potential for zero
system
redevelopment.

A best-in-class digital marketing and analytics platform that can scale horizontally and
vertically.
The Common Digital PlatformTM incorporates a number of pre-defined software
components to accelerate the development and delivery of comprehensive digital
customer services:

Data matching and cleansing

Multichannel customer interaction

Analytics for business and management insight

Single View of Customer

Mobile integration

Digital content management

Electronic data capture
Enhance business capability and efficiency:

Improve customer engagement – simplify how you create new service applications
across all customer channels and gain a deeper, quicker understanding of customer
behaviour.

Extract value from existing data resources – create a dynamic way to maximise legacy
investments while creating a new digital-driven IT operation.

Reduce costs – support consolidation of IT service requirements and cost transparency
initiatives. Services can be ‘apportionable’ to consumers/users of the platform.

Benefit from speed, scalability and high availability – the platform is capable of
dynamically supporting high levels of demand, data volumes and availability as and
when required by your business.
Base Common Digital PlatformTM
Provides the customer with an initial entry-level PaaS capability to enable application
development, management and operational management capabilities supported with
CPU, memory and storage resources and relevant operating system. In addition, CDP Base
platform provides the opportunity to demonstrate working business functionality.
The Common Digital PlatformTM Base package includes:

Cloud resources (Memory, CPU, Storage, Networks, etc.), the base IaaS services upon
which the CDP PaaS is built

Resource management tooling

Hosting either as a CDG managed service or alternatively as CDG architectural and
configuration service for a Client managed cloud service. In the latter case CDG will
provide Technology Office services to support the CDP Runtime implementation

A framework to enable rapid build and deployment of your own business services and
applications
Typical Common Digital PlatformTM use cases
CDG’s Common Digital Platform comprises three major components, Integration, Insight,
and Exploit. Respectively these components provide for heritage and third party system
and service integration, big data and powerful analytics to deliver rich business insight, and
transformation of clunky product focussed user journeys to omni channel customer value
propositions. Typical use cases incude:

Business Transformation. Delivery of customer focussed experiences layered on top of
an existing heterogeneous heritage enterprise presented as rich digital journeys

Business Transformation. Pragmatic re-architecture of the existing enterprise from
monolithic application stacks into micro service oriented and event driven enterprise
capabilities without wholesale rip and replace

Business Transformation. Creation of rich Business Insight through aggregation, filtering
and analytics of the wide range of siloed and fragmented data sources existant in the
enterprise coupled with the implementation of rich new data sources capturing
customer behaviour, social sentiment, transactions and events

Operational Transformation. Creation of a completely attributable cost model provides
analysis, reporting, control and recharge at any level of granularity.

Operational Transformation. Rich management insight generated through platform
event capture and analysis provides unprecedented levels of service compliance and
availability alerting and reporting

Operational Transformation. Exploiting the benefits of IaaS and integration with SaaS
services enables our clients to move from a predominantly capex to a predominantly
opex model for service provision where usage is fully metered and capacity
management and procurement are streamlined. With implementation of appropriate
controls and reporting, both implementable on the platform as cross cutting
capabilities, capacity management may be delegated to the business.
Naturally the above are not exclusive of each other. Quite the opposite in fact, they are
complimentary to one another and it is common to find that all are relevant and
applicable within the scope of any particular enterprise.
Integration
Provides the customer with the specific capability to enable the integration of legacy
environments to future digital platforms. In addition, CDP Integration allows for utilisation of
internal and external data resources. Can provide database, messaging and orchestration
across the platform.
The CDP Integration package provides the capability to deliver:

Event based Service Oriented Platform with enterprise messaging and async process
execution

Business Services Framework (Consumer / Producer)

Choreography / Orchestration of business services

Data management and Heritage (Legacy) applications Integration

360 View of Customer

Application Monitoring and management

Approach
CDG’s Common Digital Platform services comprise three elements

Advisory

Delivery

Support
It should be noted that at the outset of the engagement CDG will agree with the customer
a statement of work specifically tailored to that engagement’s needs.
Advisory (Logic)

Vision: work with the customer to develop a benefits plan to support the creation of a
business case

Realisation: the business requirements are captured to form part of the Statement of
Work

Architecture: development of a platform architecture to address business, application,
operational and informational requirements and provide the blueprint for platform
delivery activities including systems and infrastructure design

Governance: delivery of all documentation required for compliance with the
customer’s governance processes

Risk: assessment of key business and technical risk is conducted at the outset of the
engagement and subsequently managed throughout the engagement

Security: we take security seriously and conform to the ISO27001 standard
Day to day execution of this service is managed through the CDG Technology Office
functions Adapt, Resource and Operate, Our collaborative culture makes it much easier
