Advertising Analysis Project HONORS ** You may work in groups of up to three people. If there are any problems within the groups, notify me immediately, and I will intervene as necessary. Do not wait until the day of your presentation to complain about your group. 1. Choose two competing companies/products to compare. Ex: Pepsi vs. Coke; Nike vs. Adidas; Apple vs. Microsoft; Burger King vs. McDonald’s 2. Find 4 advertisements for EACH company/product from various media formats (total of 8 ads): print ads (newspapers, magazines, flyers, etc) broadcast ads (television, radio) online ads (websites, web videos, pop-ups, podcasts, blogs, social networking sites) 3. Write a brief (aprox. 1-2 paragraphs) analysis of EACH advertisement (that’s EIGHT analyses!), focusing on persuasive techniques and their effectiveness. Use specific examples from the ads support your arguments. 4. Write a 2-3 page essay answering the following question: Which company/product has the most effective advertising? Be sure to consider persuasive techniques, appropriateness, audiences, biases, implicit and explicit messages, and advertising medium choices in your analysis. 5. Create a presentation reporting your findings to the class. Include: Advertisements from both companies/products (not necessarily all of them; make good representative choices) Evaluations of these advertisements and the effectiveness of their persuasive techniques A final judgment of which company/product has the most effective advertising All presentations must be on a flash drive or disc. Do not email yourself a presentation and then try to download it. Your presentation must work on my school laptop.
