Incoming First Grade Suggested Summer 2015 Reading List Dear Parents, One of the best things you can do with your child is to read with them. Summer reading helps children get excited about reading and attending school in the fall. Attached you will find a list of suggested books that are appropriate for your child to read, or for you to read to them. You or your child can record the books they have read on the attached reading log during the summer. Any books your child reads can be added to the log, not just the ones on this list. Lexile levels are reading levels, which are included after each book title. Lexile levels are included to help parents and students in choosing books. Lexile levels indicate the difficulty of each text in regards to comprehension, word difficulty, and sentence length. Including these levels connect students with texts at the right level of challenge. The higher the Lexile level, the higher the difficulty of the text. If you have any questions, please contact the curriculum office at (856)232-2700x3002. When school begins next year, please return the reading log to your child’s teacher. Children who return the log will be presented with a Summer Reading Certificate of Participation. Books can be purchased at the Deptford or Glassboro Barnes and Noble, any local bookstore, or checked out from the public library. Have a great summer and keep on reading! ************************************************************************* First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg AD210 Sarah Jane Hartwell is scared and doesn’t want to start over at a new school.
