We have been studying the building blocks of our bodies, and the fact that all living things have cells. For this science project you will be making a 3 dimensional model of a cell and its organelles (cell parts). There are two parts to this project: the model and the Key/Legend CELL MODEL Listed below are the items you will need to assemble your cell model. An example can be found in our classroom. A clear glass jar with a tight fitting lid (example: med. sized jelly jar) Water or other clear liquid Items that resemble: a Nucleus, Mitochondria, Vacuoles, Cytoplasm (clear liquid), Cell Membrane (glass jar), Nucleolus, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes, Golgi Bodies, Lysosomes. Many of these items can be found around the house. Use your science text book and the web site I have provided below. You may also choose to find other web sites to guide you. Key/Legend FRONT COVER Make a drawing of a cell and label each part of the cell organelles represented in your model. I will provide the paper. INSIDE KEY/LEGEND You must also have a colored key of your cell organelles with a brief description of what each organelle does. The drawing should represent the organelles in your model. If you have access to the web, search “Animal Cell” and you will come up with plenty of good information, but here is one that I found particularly helpful: http://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm Assemble your cell at home and bring it to school on September 9th I would be happy to fill it up with water (the cytoplasm) once it’s here, if that makes it easier. Please do not use food items in your model (they cloud the water and corrode/dissolve/mold). Use your imagination and have fun!
