By: Stan Ottolini Gabriel Halpin Patrick LaBruzzo Engr. 45, December 2009 Our Group (from left): Patrick LaBruzzo, Stan Ottolini, and Gabriel Halpin The purpose of this project was to test if the line would break at the manufactured specified rating and to measure and plot the stress vs. strain curve for the fishing line. The type of fishing line that we used was nylon. Fishing Line Brands: Du Pont: Stren Sport Fisher: Eagle Claw Zebco: Omniflex Trilene: XL Super Strong Trilene: XT Extra Tough 12 Lb Test Fishing Line Du Pont: Stren Made in U.S.A. The 14lb Eagle Claw broke almost 14% its rated strength. The other two, the Zebco Omniflex 15lb, and the Trilene Super Strong 25lb, both broke relatively close to their rated strengths, within 5%.
