September 11, 2015 TO: Terry Burns Chair, Faculty Senate FROM: D. Joanne Wilson Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs RE: REVISION Proposed Revisions to the Catalog – short, voluntary absences The Academic Policy Team (the Assistant/Associate Deans, the Dean of Students, the Registrar, and the AVCAA) reviewed the catalog policy currently in place. We propose that the Faculty Senate review and adopt the proposed changes (in highlights and strike) to the opening of the UW-Platteville catalog. About this Catalog The UW-Platteville ONLINE catalog represents the most accurate reflection of curricula and policies available up to the time of printing. All students matriculating at the university follow the guidelines and academic requirements espoused by this document, unless they are interrupted by time away from the institution. Students whose attendance is voluntarily interrupted for at least one semester may more than two semesters will be expected to meet the curricular requirements in effect at the time of their return. Students follow the requirements of the catalog in effect at the point of admission. Students transferring from another UW institution follow the guidelines in effect at the point of admission to the UW System. This practice could be affected by a variety of situations, such as collegiate or departmental curricular changes, absence for several semesters or terms and other circumstances. Students must decide to choose between the requirements of one catalog or another; they may not choose to combine catalogs. Individual departments make announcements concerning changes in degree requirements. Students should remain in contact with their advisors to keep informed about their degree requirements and any possible changes that should occur. As a reminder, this ONLINE catalog is not a contract, but represents announcements of general information, general academic regulations and the university’s academic programs extent at the date of publication. Questions concerning the ONLINE catalog may be directed to your advisor, departmental offices or the Registrar’s Office. D. All students matriculating at the university follow the guidelines and academic requirements espoused by this document. Students must choose between the requirements of one catalog or another; they may not choose to combine catalogs. Students who voluntarily leave UW-Platteville for no more than two semesters will continue under the catalog which applied to them at the time they left. Otherwise, students who leave UW-Platteville and return will be required to meet the curricular requirements in effect at the time of their return. Rationale for the change: A number of students leave the university voluntarily for a short period of time. The reasons may be due to a family emergency, military duty, financial reasons, etc. After they return and consult with their academic advisors, a degree program change form is filed so that they may graduate using the curricula of the catalog that was in place when they first attended the university. Those students that have a short term absence from UW-Platteville will no longer have to file the paperwork, reducing some administrative paperwork. D.
