Tour and activities
23
Glamis Castle – Option 1
Glamis Castle has a fascinating and exciting history. It has been the family home of
the Earls of Strathmore since 1372, when King Robert II (the first of the Stuart Kings)
of Scotland gave the castle to Sir John Lyon. On arrival they will enjoy a coffee/tea
with the traditional Scottish shortbread at the Castle. Legends and myths have grown
around the castle. King Malcolm II was said to have been murdered here in 1540
James V.
There is said to be a secret room where a nobleman played cards with the devil
himself. Glamis today look more like a French Chateau than a medieval fortress,
because it was extensively restored in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The original tower house remains at the centre of the castle today. It has, of course,
close connections with the present Royal Family, being the childhood home of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness The Princess
Margaret was born here in 1930.
Tour time: 4 hours

not to be missed include St Andrews cathedral, the castle and the beautiful
beaches. The town has also developed a reputation for its shopping
experience which include several independent shops and boutiques as well as
a selection of charming cafes, bars and restaurants.
The town has a very calm and old fashioned feel to it. Many of the original
buildings have survived and almost the entire centre of the town consists of
“listed” buildings. With many narrow alleyways linking the streets, there are
numerous small tearooms & curiosity shops to expire.
25
Cruise Loch Lomond – Option 2
Described by many as Queen of Scottish Lochs and 'Gateway to the Highlands', Loch
Lomond measures 23 miles long and five miles wide, making it the single largest expanse
of fresh water in Great Britain.
Over 200 metres in depth, it's also Scotland’s third deepest Loch. But it's what happens on
and around the water that perhaps makes the Loch most special.
Wildlife, a mysterious floating island, stately homes, ruins - Loch Lomond has them all in
abundance, all just waiting to be explored.
This two hour round trip will take you past Cameron House Hotel and the world-renowned
Loch Lomond Golf Course, continuing onwards through the narrows to the magnificent
Ben Lomond and the historic village of Luss, before returning along the west shore to
Balloch.
The Silver Dolphin is quite simply the most luxurious passenger boat operating in Scotland.
The newest addition to the Sweeney's Cruises fleet the Silver Dolphin was formerly a firm
favourite on the River Thames where she was chartered by the likes of Sir Michael Caine,
Sir Elton John, Alan Rickman and even the Prince of Wales.
Warm teak panelling, thick-pile carpeting, nautical brass fittings give the Silver Dolphin the
air of a bespoke private members club.
26
The Boat House at Cameron House - Lunch
Cameron House Hotel stands on the peaceful southern shores of Loch Lomond, looking
across its shimmering waters to the majestic hills beyond. Occupying over 100 acres of
magnificent woodland, it provides and inspirational setting, yet is conveniently located just
20 minutes from Glasgow International Airport.

ducks that play by the water’s edge, you enter the New England style Boat House restaurant.
The Boat House features a Loch Fyne seafood menu as well as much more. Unstuffy, but
elegant the place is a buzz with people s and captain’s from the nearby marina.
The astonishing view is tempting, but the aromas from the wood burning oven creating the
best pizza for miles, just swing it for you.
27
Glengoyne Distillery – Option 2
Glengoyne Distillery was established in 1833 in the Campsie Hills, 14 miles from the
centre of Glasgow. Because of its location, the distillery only just qualifies as a
Highland Malt Whisky, straddling the imaginary line from Dundee to Greenock, which
separates the Highland from the Lowland malts.
The distillery is owned by the Edrington Group, and produces a light-bodied malt,
which is clean and fresh on the nose and palate. As well as the 10-year old, the
distillery also produces a 17-year old, which is well worth a try.
Take a tour of this picture’s distillery and discover the secrets to making Scotland’s
national drink. There will of course be the opportunity to sample the whisky.
Enhance the experience with a VIP tour or a master blender tour.

Evening Activity

underground vaults. The tour takes you through the wynds and courtyards and

gruesome past. Witches, torture, body snatchers and ghosts are all part of
this fascinating tour of Edinburgh.
Recently uncovered, the historic haunted vaults beneath Edinburgh's South
Bridge were abandoned and filled in for over two hundred years. The site of
many supernatural phenomena over the past few years, the vaults are the
perfect place for the telling of ghost stories! They are also ideal for describing
the social history of Scotland's capital. See the workshops of 18thC
tradesmen, the remains of the slum dwellings, an ancient vault where gold
bullion was once stored, and find out why the vaults were abandoned!
At the end of the evening, enjoy a whisky at one of the city’s traditional old
pubs.
30
The Caves
Enjoy a ghastly and gruesome themed dinner in the underground caves of
Edinburgh. Dinner will never be the same again after this truly authentic ghostly
dinner at the Edinburgh Underground Caves. The Caves encompasses a suite of
five vaulted spaces, which can be adapted to suit groups from a select gathering
of 25 to a vast party of 350.
The romantic venues are steeped in colourful history, and every vaulted room that
has been sympathetically restored to its former glory has a story to tell and a
special place in Scotland ’ s past. Restored original wooden flooring, antique
Chesterfields and original artefacts in the upstairs snug bar, old adverts from the
1700s and 1800s transformed into wallpaper, state of the art lighting and sound
systems contrasted with atmospheric candles, are just some of the delights of The
Caves.
Massive arched ceilings soar above the main vault and its stage, overlooked by a
spacious balcony. Glimpses of ancient house foundations entice visitors into the
vault beyond. Upstairs, within the Georgian tenement which concealed the vaults
for so many years, is a large function room with spectacular original fireplaces –
truly a venue whose reputation for hospitality has become second to none.
