Last reviewed December 2013. Application Process As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community. Thank you for your interest in applying for a job with Independent People. The following notes have been designed to help you fill in your application form as effectively as possible, and you are advised to read them before you start. The application form is very important because it is the first stage of the selection procedure. It provides the information we will use when deciding whether you will be invited to interview, for both internal and external candidates, and so you should include all relevant information about your skills and experience. If you need to continue on a separate sheet for any of the sections please do so, making sure that the additional information for each section is clearly headed for example “Training” and includes your name. Please note that the information you supply in the application form will not be passed to anyone else nor will it be used for any purpose other than recruitment. If successful, your application form will be placed on your personnel file. If unsuccessful, the form will be kept for 6 months from the end of the recruitment exercise, after which time it will be destroyed. Please also note that Sections A, B and E of the Application Form will be detached prior to short-listing. Panel members will not have details of your personal information until after short-listing has been completed. Understanding the job The job advert gives only brief details of the job, so you should also read the job description and person specification, which are included with the application pack. The job description outlines the main duties in more detail, and the person specification contains the knowledge, skills and experience you will need to do the job. All this information will give you a clear idea of what the job is about, and you can then decide whether you want to submit an application. Completing the application form You must complete each section of the form accurately and fully, so that we can assess your application against the criteria given in the person specification. When completing Section D, it is important that you explain how you meet the requirements of the job. When explaining how you meet the criteria, you should try to give an example of something you have done to demonstrate the particular knowledge, skill or experience. Simply saying you have the knowledge, skill or criteria is unlikely to sufficiently demonstrate how you meet the requirements. The decision on whether to invite you for interview will be made solely on the information contained in the form, so statements such as “see previous application” will not be acted upon. CVs Please do not submit a CV as it will not be considered. Safeguarding Children and Young People We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff to share this commitment and to undergo appropriate checks, including enhanced DBS checks. 1. Candidates should be aware that all posts at 1625 Independent People involve some degree of responsibility for safeguarding children and young people, although the extent of that responsibility will vary depending on the nature of the post. Please see the job description enclosed in this Application Pack for further details. 2. Accordingly this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings must be declared. 3 1625IP Employment Application Form. Last reviewed December 2013. 3. If you are currently working with children, on either a paid or voluntary basis, your current employer will be asked about disciplinary offences, including those related to children or young people (whether the disciplinary sanction is current or time-expired), and whether you have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any investigation or disciplinary proceedings. If you are not currently working with children, but have done in the past, that previous employer may be asked about these issues. 4. Where neither your current or previous employment has involved working with children, your current employer will be asked about your suitability to work with children or young people. HOW TO COMPLETE THE FORM Applications will only be accepted from candidates completing the enclosed Application Form. Although only sections C and D will be used for short-listing purposes, please complete ALL Sections of the Application Form which are relevant to you as clearly and fully as possible (Sections A, B, C, D and E). Previous convictions We have not asked for any previous convictions to be disclosed at this stage. If you are shortlisted for the role we will send you a copy of our Disclosure Check Policy and you will be asked to disclose any convictions during the interview for the role. Any disclosure you make will be considered and will be assessed according to the nature of the conviction, and the job concerned. Please note that DBS Enhanced Checks are carried out on all Independent People workers. References If you are in paid employment, the line manager in your current employer should be named as someone we can approach for a reference. References will be taken up only if you are offered a position and after you have accepted it. A previous employer or a professional person who is not a friend or relative should be named as the second referee. If you have not been employed before, you should give the name of someone who will be able to comment on your skills and abilities, such as a teacher or lecturer, or another professional person who is not a friend or relative. If you are related to a referee in any way, for example, if you have formally been employed by a member of your family, you should make this clear on the form. You should ask permission from your proposed referee prior to naming them. Education Please include all qualifications gained, along with the grades you obtained. Training Please include details of all relevant training courses you have attended. Please give full details, rather than just the course title, if it will help clarify what you have done. Employment Your employment history should include not only past and present formal employment, but also any other relevant work experience you have had, such as with charities, voluntary organisations, social or community activities. This is particularly important if you have not been employed on a full time basis before, or are returning to work after a long absence. Please ensure that you include your present or last employer even if you feel that the job is not relevant to the position you are applying for. Section D This is a very important section. You can expand on the knowledge, skills and experience gained both within and outside formal employment, along with your achievements. It is important that you show how you meet the criteria, not just state that you do. 4 1625IP Employment Application Form. Last reviewed December 2013.
