2. Trading Cards (partner)
You will be creating your own set (6) of trading cards for an ecosystem’s food web. Each card will include a
picture of the animal, it’s habitat, status (carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, scavenger), and the impact this
animal has on its ecosystem.
Then you will create an “answer card.” The answer card will show how all of the cards interact. The simplest
way to do this is to draw a food web with all of the animals and arrows showing the flow of energy.

3. Restaurant Menu (partner)
Instructions:
1. Turn a blank sheet of computer paper sideways and fold it into thirds.
2. Unfold it and number the sections on the back from left to right 5, 6, and 1. I know it seems wrong
right now, but in the end it will be right.
3. Flip it over and number the sections on the front – again from left to right 2, 3, and 4.
Now complete each section as follows:
Section 1: Write the name of the restaurant, hours of operation, and draw a picture to go along with it.
Section 2,3,4:
 Complete food web (carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, scavengers, decomposers, plants, and SUN)
 Completely colored or done on the computer (use the WHOLE paper)
 Include arrows to show flow of energy
 7 or more creative "food items" with prices
Section 5: 3 Drinks and 3 desserts for the restaurant
Section 6: Extra information about your restaurant (ecosystem).

4. Annotated Illustration (individual)
On an 8 ½ by 11 piece of computer paper you will create a “scene” from you ecosystem. You will then place a
caption next to each item that is two – three sentences long. You scene should depict the following things:
1. Weather of the ecosystem – your caption must describe the weather and times of year this weather occurs.
2. At least 2 landforms – your caption can name famous landforms found in your ecosystem, animals that live
among these landforms, or how your landform affects the ecosystem.
3. At least 5 consumers from this ecosystem– your caption must include the animal’s name and one fact about
it. (This can be only 1 sentence long.)
4. At least 2 producers from this ecosystem– your caption must describe what consumes them and how often
they grow

5. Advertisement (individual)
You will create an advertisement to attract people to your ecosystem. It must be on an 8 ½ by 11 piece of
computer paper. The entire page must be used. Include a “hook” or slogan to attract tourists. At the bottom
you must include a paragraph summary of your topic. You may do an advertisement over one of the
following things:
- Rare animals
- Famous animals only found in that ecosystem
- Rare plants
- Famous plants only found in that ecosystem
Come watch a glow brighter than the Moon
Meet the firefly squid. Growing no longer than three inches in length, the firefly
squid earns points for putting on a dazzling display. A firefly squid is covered
with thousands of light-emitting organs known as photophores that can blink in
unison or separately. Firefly squids are found in the West Pacific Ocean, most
famously off the coast of Japan.

6. Wanted Poster (individual)
You will create a wanted poster for either an endangered animal or extinct animal in your ecosystem. It must
be on an 8 ½ by 11 piece of computer paper. The entire page must be used. Include a “hook” or slogan to
attract people to look at your poster. At the bottom you must include a paragraph summary of why the
animal is endangered or extinct.

7. Postcard (individual)
You will create a postcard on a 4 by 6 notecard (or on the computer.) The front of the card must be a scene
from your ecosystem. Also include a 45-cent stamp of an animal found in that ecosystem. On the back you
will write a letter to an environmentalist about ways that you plan on improving this ecosystem. This needs to
be in letter format and be at least 6 sentences long.
