Reading
 A mix of informational and fictional texts of different
genres.
 Text Based Questions will be used often to access
student understanding where students will prove
their answers from evidence in the text. To do this
students will practice Close Reading.
 Close Reading Strategies: a careful and purposeful rereading of the text to search for purpose, structure,
words, ideas, and flow of the text.
Vocabulary
 Vocabulary will come from all subject areas.
 In ELA vocabulary words may be somewhat
individualized as students will be annotating
what they read and searching for new vocabulary.
 Tier 2 words will be studied: Words that appear
with high frequency, across a variety of domains,
and are crucial when using mature, academic
language (coincidence, reluctant, analysis).
