Grade 11 ACT & ACT Alternate Assessment Options Information for Special Education High School Department Chairs (December 2013) Please review the following flowchart to assist you and Special Education staff in preparing for ACT and ACT Alternate Assessment testing in Grade 11. Grade 11 (For students in Grade 11 for 1st time) ACT College & Career Readiness Alternate Assessment NCEXTEND 1 Alternate Assessment Grade 11 Who should take this assessment? All students except those whose parents request an alternate assessment & who meet the eligibility criteria *Student with an IEP *Student who meets eligibility criteria (most often Occupational Course of Study students) *Student with an IEP *Student who meets eligibility criteria (must be NC Extended Common Core or Essential Standards) What needs to be done for a student to take this alternate assessment? NA *Parent Request Form must be completed and signed by parent *IEP must reflect the alternate assessment *Parent Request Form must be completed and signed by parent *IEP must reflect the alternate assessment What happens if the parent does not request the alternate assessment? NA *Student takes the regular ACT assessment *Student does not take any assessment Will it count against the school if the student takes the alternate assessment? NA No, because they are being tested Yes, because the student is not being tested in any way What are the timelines for the alternate assessment request process?
