This position provides approved law enforcement training to members of the Provost Marshal’s Office
(PMO)/Marine Corps Police Department (MCPD). The incumbent presents course material and
instruction in the full spectrum of law enforcement training, ranging from initial basic law enforcement
training for civilian police officers attending the Marine Corps Police Academy (MCPA) to conducting
PMO/MCPD in-service training and the re-qualification/certification program associated with Marine Corps
law enforcement. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of the subject matter as well as
effective instructional delivery techniques and knowledge of instructional methods and learning styles of
adult students. The work is rigorous at times as much of the training is outdoors and “hands on” with
respect to defensive tactics and firearms training, therefore, the incumbent must be in excellent physical
health in order to conduct the rigorous hands-on instruction portion of the curriculum.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Must have an in-depth knowledge of military and civilian law enforcement procedures, the military and
civilian criminal justice system and other related disciplines.
2. Must possess the skill and ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing to a wide
variety of audiences.
3. Must possess documented and demonstrated experience as an instructor or trainer in a military, law
enforcement or security related field.
4. Must have an accomplished classroom and podium presence with the keen ability to establish an
environment conducive to learning.
5. Must be proficient in the use of computers and software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point,
databases and e-mail.
6. Must have the skill and ability to qualify and maintain proficiency with a variety of weapons utilized in
PMO/MCPD operations.
7. Must have the ability to become certified in, perform and instruct a variety of defensive tactics
systems utilized in PMO/MCPD operations.
8. Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of active military or civilian police/security experience or
related law enforcement experience within the past eight (8) years.
2. Must have knowledge and experience in recent/modern law enforcement procedures and techniques.
3. Must have completed an instructor course such as the Navy Military Training Course, the Marine
Corps MOI, or an MOI course conducted by an accredited police academy at the Federal or State
level and have at least one (1) year of experience as an instructor.
4. Must complete one of the following courses:
a. The Marine Corps Primary Marksmanship Instructor
b. Navy Small Arms Marksmanship Instructor Course
c. Air Force Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Course

d. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Small Arms Instructor Course
e. The NRA (5) Day Law Enforcement Handgun and Shotgun Development Course
f. Any firearms instructor course taught by or used by any other federal or state law
enforcement agency.
Must complete the PPCT instructor course.
Must complete a baton instructor course conducted by Monadnock, ASP or an accredited police
academy at the federal or state level.
Must be able to pass an initial and subsequent periodic physical agility test (usually every six months)
Must successfully complete a National Agency Check with Written Inquires (NACI) and/or possess or
be able to obtain, if necessary, a “secret” security clearance
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must successfully pass initial drug screening and periodic follow-up testing.
Must successfully complete a background check.
Must pass a physical examination.
Must successfully pass a psychological evaluation.
Must possess a valid in state driver’s license.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must have 20/20 correctable vision in each eye.
