Fill out the online application and submit to CIC for approval at http://myaccount.conventionindustry.org 2. Receive approval notification from CIC (within 6-8 weeks of application) 3. Pay your exam fee to CIC 4. Schedule your exam date with Prometric 5. Sit for the CMP exam (within one year of receiving approval) Exam is offered 4 times a year (January, May, August and November) STEP 1: Fill out the online application and submit to CIC for approval There are three “E’s” to earning the CMP designation: Experience Education Exam Professional EXPERIENCE – 1 of 3 36 months of experience 24 months of experience + industry degree 36 months as educational instructor Continuing EDUCATION – 1 of 2 25 clock hours Industry Internship Must be completed in the past five years STEP 2: Receive Approval Notification From CIC Application reviewed by volunteer CMPs and CIC staff ► If approved ► Instructions to register for exam ► If denied ► Incomplete, illegible, experience or education not in past five years ► May appeal (up to 14 days after notification) ► STEP 3: Pay your Exam Fee to CIC ► ► ► ► Pay exam fee of $450 Registration good for one year from notice of approval. Better to register early; don’t leave yourself with no options. Can retake without paying $250 app fee again. If appropriate, include ADA request STEP 4: Schedule Your Exam with Prometric ► ► ► ► May schedule online or by phone Test Centers fill up quickly; schedule early to get preferred date. Test scheduling can be done up to six months prior to test dates. Can reschedule anytime except five days prior to your exam. $75 rescheduling fee. STEP 5: Sit for the CMP Exam ► ► ► ► ► Arrive 30 minutes before exam time. Bring test confirmation letter and governmentissued photo ID. No personal items (locker will be provided).
