Chapter 1 Mr.Ocax
Poppy and Ragweed where on a hill by Mr.Ocax watching
tree or as he called it his own path.
Poppy was under a
rotten piece of bark ragweed was out in the open eating a
hassle nut Rag weed had a earring dangling from his ear.
Mr.Ocaks spotted two mice he thought mice were the best
meal if only the one under the bark would come out he
murmured to him self.
Ragweed come under we did not
ask permission and Mr.Ocax cant see us come under and
dance with me pleaded poppy girl you don’t know how to
live like me said Ragweed he was just and was just about to
purpose when instantly Mr.Ocax came full speed ahead
and grabbed Ragweed killing him instantly and flying with
him to his nest and swallowed him in one gulp poppy lay
under there bark unconscious.
Chapter 2 Poppy Remembers
Poppy remembered a flash back of the last family
meeting Poppy has twelve brothers and sisters and
they all got together to talk about porky pines before
crossing Mr.Ocax path they have to ask permission
from Mr.Ocax. Mr.Ocax has eaten fifteen of there
family members because they did not ask permission.
Ragweed asked a lot of questions at the family meeting
and one of them was so very dumb Poppy’s dad got
extremely mad at Ragweed he started yelling and
screaming at ragweed. Ragweed was the one that
wanted to go to the hill with out Mr.Ocax permission.
Chapter 3 Poppy Alone
Mr.Ocax does not want Poppy to escape but when he was not
looking Poppy started to skitter crossed the grass Mr.Ocax saw her and
she saw him Poppy started running as fast as she could. Mr.Ocax
started to fly after her she got into a tight space that Mr.Ocax could not
reach. Mr.Ocax sat there waiting for Poppy to come out when he looked
away poppy made a run for it some dirt came up as she ran Mr.Ocax
saw the dirt and started flying after her she ran for a piece of bark
Mr.Ocax dived into the bark as Poppy got out and Poppy got away she
hid and she saw the red flag she thought the news about ragweed got
home but bit could not have but what was it. Mr.Ocax spit up owl
pellet and in it was Ragweed's earring.
Chapter 4 The Emergency
Meeting
Poppy's dad was very glad to see Poppy. He asked
were was Ragweed? They did not know what had
happened yet she asked if she could tell him after the
meeting he said yes. He announced the family is
very big and there was not enough food so they would
have to move. The meeting was over every one left
except Poppy, her dad, Basil and her mother Poppy’s
dad demanded to tell him what had happened she said
Ragweed is dead and there was a moment of silent's
every one left.
Chapter 5 leaving Gray House
Poppy and her dad started off on there way to ask
Mr.Ocax permission all the mice were cheering after
the cheering ended they were almost half way there
Poppy had to carry a white flag because her dad
thought it would show that they mean businesses.
It started to rain the flag got very heavy, wet and
muddy Her dad yelled shake the flag off it must be
white she shook it off and they reached Mr.Ocax he
looked like the devil him self.
Chapter 6 Standing before
Poppy and Lungwort went to ask Mr.Ocax to move
because they did not have enough food. Mr.Ocax
refused and told Poppy to go under the tree to talk to
lungwort alone as she was walking through the owl
pellet when she saw a something glittering in a pellet.
Mr.Ocax and lungwort talked about why they could
not move while they were walking away Mr.Ocax said
three things there is a new porky pine is in Dimwood,
ask Poppy why you and your family can’t move and if
you leave Poppy I maybe rethink about letting you
move.
Chapter 7 Home Again
Poppy and Lungwort went back to gray house with the bad
news Lungwort was so upset he could not talk so Poppy had
to tell everyone. Poppy announced to the mice that
Mr.Ocax refused and the reason why he clamed is that it was
because Poppy and Ragweed went to bannock hill with out
permission. While she was walking in side Basil said this
way he said get dry while I get you something warm to eat.
A couple minutes later Basil came back with a acorn of
steaming rye look what I found said Poppy it was ragweed's
earring where did you find that said basil in a pellet said
Poppy. Poppy went to her room and wrapped her nose and
tried to go to sleep but she could not.
Chapter 8 Poppy and Papa

Poppy went into the boot where Papa was. He was
sad and very depressed he was the sickest he had ever
been. Papa was mad at Mr.Ocax because he did not
let them move unless they left Poppy but he could not
do that as much as he wanted to move. Poppy knew
she had to go to new house for them to move and Basil
gave her ragweed's earring for good luck and she was
on her way.
Chapter 9 On Her Way
Poppy said “it is such a nice to be worried” She imagined she was in
her attic and looking though pictures she pretended she was wearing
slippers she danced around then she stopped pretended to kick off the
slippers and got back to walking . Poppy reached glitter creak there
was no way to get across but she had a idea to jump on the rocks and
she started on the ninth rock lay a rock turtle when she reached the
ninth rock she yelled hay no answer she tried to jump to the next rock
she slipped on moss and fell into the water. She grabbed a water lily
and poled her self up Mr.Ocax saw Poppy and jumped into the water
Mr.Ocax was diving for her he fell in the water . Poppy washed up on
shore she was in the place she least wanted to be next to Mr.Ocax
charred oak.
Chapter 10 Dimwood Forest
Poppy was desperate to find a hiding place she wanted to get away
as much as she could from Mr.Ocax watching tree she hid under a leaf
she hear a branch brake and a scream she was wondering what the
animal was Poppy smelled the air there was nothing . Poppy said to
her self I think it should be called Darkwood forest she peeked out and
she was scared to go out there was no animal she started west
A hour later.
She stopped to nibble on pine needles she came upon a old piece of bark
with mold and fungus growing on it she sensed danger she turned
around and it was a red fox the fox had been following her as she new
it the fox was almost upon her she hid in a log the fox was waiting for
her to come out another animal was coming the other way she was
trapped.
Chapter 11 Erethizon Dorsatum

While Poppy was in the log another animal was there with a black
snout and fierce whiskers the beast hollered why did you wake me up
all that barking ?!
It was not me said Poppy it was the fox What is
your name demanded Ereth Poppy What kind of name is Poppy ?
Poppy said ser please don’t make fun of my name it is a family thing
were we are named after flowers Go tell that fox to nock it off Poppy
told Ereth I can’t said Poppy and why not asked Ereth well the fox
wants to eat me so I can’t. What kind of animal are asked Poppy I’m a
porky pine duh said Ereth Poppy froze and could not say anything
Ereth went to the fox and by the time was done Poppy heard running
paws Poppy tried to find her way out when Ereth came back in he
asked Poppy Why the devil are you hiding in my toilet?!!!!!!!
Chapter 12 What Poppy Learns

Don’t stab me and eat me Poppy cried what Ereth
asked I'm a vegetarian he said so you did not eat that fox
No!
I just swatted him with my tail and I don’t eat meat
he said. How in the fleas flick told you porky pines eat
mice? Ereth asked Mr.Ocax said Poppy so he told you that
porky pines eat mice He only wants to protect him self He
is afraid of me said Ereth. Do you have a family asked
Poppy I had a wife and four kids they wondered off Ereth
said sadly Is there something you really love asked Poppy
Yes who is it not who salt I can’t get enough of it. Can I
sleep here poppy asked sure but I would not sleep there
because you are in my toilet and it is stinky even for me.
Chapter 13 early morning

Poppy found a soft place to sleep a little bit later Poppy woke up and
she was looking for Ereth there was no sign of him anywhere. A tree
a crossed the path sat a owl she ran back she new it was Mr.Ocax or a
new owl but she had to know for sure Poppy looked out again it was
Mr.Ocax Out of the corner of his eye he saw a movement he thought it
was Ereth when Ereth came back are you leaving yet he hollered Poppy
came running There is a owl out side said Poppy said oh that jerk said
Ereth let me go and talk to him he dragged Poppy out side I heard you
told the mice that porky pines eat mice and you call your self the ruler
said Ereth Mr.Ocax got mad and went back into is nest Poppy told
Ereth it the mater between life and death to get to new house and he
had to come with her no he said I get you salt said Poppy Ereth turned
around with a dreamy look in his eyes yes he said we have a deal.
Chapter 14 on the way to new
house

On the way Poppy was surprised how fast Ereth was
walking Poppy saw a raccoon and a lot more animals Poppy
saw a brown blur swopping she keep looking back Poppy
stopped to sniff Pine needles when out of no were Mr.Ocax
down and was aiming for Poppy Ereth jumped in the way
Mr.Ocax hissed and flew away. A little bit later Poppy
went on dirt road and they trotted along Ereth asked Poppy
What are you doing I’m checking for Mr.Ocax replied
Poppy They went into the corn field they kept walking until
they a salt lick now you have to finger out how to get the
salt down at new house on a window sill on a barn sat a owl
twice the size of Mr.Ocax.
Chapter 15 Alone again
Isn't it the most lushes thing ever Ereth asked
Poppy's eye were still on the owl see said no Ereth said
what it is the most lushes thing ever Ereth left because
he said he would get Poppy to new house and he said
you better find a way to get me that salt. Poppy
started running when she tripped over one of Ereth’s
quills she thought it would make a good sword so she
made a little belt and stuck it in the belt. Poppy was
wondering why Mr.Ocax did not let them move is it
because of the other owl was it the owl would steal his
food but what ever it was Poppy was just about to find
out.
Chapter 16 The Truth at Last
A orange tom cat came out of new house he stared at the barn the
cat laded down under the owl out of the house came a human he went
to pet the cat then into the barn he went. A couple of chickens came
running out the boy walked up to the owl and put his hand on the top
of his head and turned it backwards Poppy thought the owl was fake
and she was right. She went into the corn field and ate away Poppy
turned around in fear and there was a family of that was her f deer they
started licking the salt lick Poppy thought to get the salt. She walked
to the cat he was very old She said “hello” the cat said “hi I’m Gorge” Is
that a fake owl Poppy he owls asked yes he said the owners of new
house put it up because a owl two weeks ago took a chicken so the
owners put the owl up to scare the owls. Poppy new why he did not
let them move now because he does not want to lose his dinner.
Chapter 17 A Surprising
Conversation

Poppy imagined her telling her family that
Mr.Ocax was a big phony She was hungry so she ate
some corn she started to think how to get the salt She
saw Mr.Ocax on a branch in a tree she yelled Mr.Ocax
he started looking around right here Poppy said are
you scared of the owl asked poppy it’s not fun being
scared said Poppy I’m going to tell my family you’re a
big phony said Poppy. You’re a smart mouse said
Mr.Ocax we can settle this by talking only if you want
said Mr.Ocax Poppy looked away then looked back at
the tree were was Mr.Ocax he plunged behind her.
Chapter 18 The Battle

Mr.Ocax was blocking her way to new house Mr.Ocax said now you
can’t go to new house and you don’t have that fat porky pine to protect
you Poppy poled out the quill you don’t think one of his quills can stop
me said Mr.Ocax Your not a owl you’re a chicken said Poppy . Now
Mr.Ocax was mad and he would do any thing to get Poppy tried to get
away she tried to roll under Mr.Ocax Poppy started to run Mr.Ocax
flew in front of her. Poppy went on one knee and held up her quill
and it jabbed Mr.Ocax in his claw he started to squawk and roll then he
got up and started flying Poppy started to say to her self let go let go
but she did not it was to late she looked ahead it was the salt lick Poppy
let go and Mr.Ocax smashed into the salt lick he fell to the ground
motion less his last words were “ sometimes I wonder why I bother to
protect you”. And Poppy knew Mr.Ocax was not alive any more.
Chapter 19 The Return

Poppy should have felt proud but she mostly felt
sadness she had to tell someone about her victory.
Poppy followed the sent of porky pine home and she was
trying to tell Ereth but he only cared about the salt so he
went to get the salt. Poppy asked if she could sleep there
he said sure so she found a place to sleep when she woke up
Ereth was back eating the salt in a slobbery way Ereth said
it was the best salt he ever had and he was once thankful
for Mr.Ocax hard head. Poppy went home and
announced that Mr.Ocax is dead and that they could move
to new house and there would be food for all of them for
ever and ever.
Chapter 20 A New Beginning

it had been thirteen full moons since Ragweed's
death Poppy got married to a mouse named Rye and
they had eleven kids there was a hazel nut in
Ragweed’s honor Poppy put Ragweed’s earring on a
branch Poppy said now we have are dancing place were
you can dance when ever you want and what ever way
you want Ereth played music on his quills and every
one danced and Ragweed’s earring glittered in the
moon light.

I like this book because it had action, very good
details, and great illustrations. I loved reading this
