Boot Camp Overview
The Oracle Hyperion Planning (HP) 11.1.2.2 Implementation Boot Camp is a fast-paced five -day class that provides a
comprehensive review of the functionality of Oracle Hyperion Planning product line. It includes lecture and extensive
hands on instruction use of the product and walks participants through the steps involved in an implementation of
Planning.
The Oracle Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 Implementation Boot Camp covers the mechanics and strategies for automating
the build process such as interface tables and reviews data loads using Load Rules to load the Planning database.
The course focuses on tasks that end-users must perform during the planning cycle. It walks students through creating
and modifying forms, working with forms to enter data, adding annotations, and other form features such as running
business rules and managing task lists.
It covers how to use the forms in the Smart View client and concludes the end-user perspective by going through
Workflow Management and the process of submitting a plan for review.
All content necessary to prepare for and successfully deliver this boot camp is contained within a set of files organized
within a standardized directory structure – see Distribution Directory and File Description chapter. This set of files is
referred to as the “course distribution”.

Please note that this lab can be run on any server with an up to date install of Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 and associated
shared services and provider services. The only discrepancies which will need to be dealt with on the fly are that users
will be required to use:
1. Credentials specific to that server and EPM instance
2. The start-up of services will need to be done according to the environment being used…e.g Services start
automatically on the Qubix provided instance, but are started by virtue of the Oracle Demo utility on the
“PTA_WIN2K8R2X64_QUBIX_HFM11G_V2” image when that is used
3. The paths in the outline command utility lab exercise will need to be changed to match that of the environment
on which the course is being run.

Boot Camp Preparation
Instructor selection and preparation are critical to successful delivery of this boot camp. At a minimum an instructor
should have the following background:

Substantial real-world experience delivering end customer implementations and solutions based on Oracle
Hyperion Planning

Hands-on experience working through the boot camp lab exercises in the remote OPNEC environment.
A prospective instructor should attend this boot camp as a participant prior to teaching it. Instructor preparation
consists of learning the material to be delivered, how it should be delivered and building and being in possession of the
necessary on-site materials to support the class.
Instructor knowledge of the subject area and detailed familiarity with the course material are among the most
important factors in successful boot camp delivery. Knowledge of the subject area should be covered by appropriate
instructor selection, but it is up to the individual instructor to adequately prepare to deliver the material. Accordingly,
prior to class, each instructor should:

Carefully go though all presentation slides and review all slide notes. It is strongly recommended that an
instructor plan to augment the material with real world examples reflecting his/her experience. This can
stimulate great conversations and adds significantly to the value of the class.
2.
Ensure that the instructor understands how to access and use the Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 remote
environment on the OPNEC hosting service.
3.
Using the OPNEC remote hosting service, the instructor must work through all student labs at least twice
anticipating problem areas that students may encounter. It is hard to overemphasize the importance of being
well prepared to help students troubleshoot during the lab exercises. A successful boot camp depends greatly
on students having consistent success with the lab exercises.
2.1 Facilities
This boot camp is designed to be delivered in person or in a live virtual format. Based on own web conferencing tool
characteristics, as well as on physical facility, a suitable classroom should be arranged to accommodate the planned class
size. This is just a planning guideline. You should base your decision on your knowledge of your planned participants.

own laptops to use as workstations or the classroom can provide the machines.
Network Requirements

This boot camp does not require network connectivity as all labs are stand alone. However, internet
connectivity is strongly recommended. This will allow students to download required software if they did
not do so prior to class.

Live Virtual Training (LVT)

Maximum Recommended Class Size
The maximum number of students recommended for successful delivery of this boot camp is as follows:

Based on our experience due to attrition, no shows and passive participants you may consider planning for a class of
twice the above sizing and only assuming that half of the confirmed participants will be actively involved.


Environment Preparation
Labs for this boot camp are conducted using the Oracle “PTA_WIN2K8R2X64_QUBIX_HFM11G_V2” Image, a fully
functional virtual machine based demo environment.
The Oracle “PTA_WIN2K8R2X64_QUBIX_HFM11G_V2” Image is hosted by the OPNEC and must be provisioned for the
boot camp.
Student machines must meet the requirements as stated in the Datasheet, in order to be able to access the OPN
Enablement Environment (OPN EE).
Images can be installed locally on individual workstations (“Local Option”) or instances of the image may be hosted on
servers and accessed remotely from individual student workstation via remote desktop software (“Hosted Option”).
Note that this option is determined for each scheduled boot camp delivery. Consult the Boot Camp schedule to
determine the lab environment option planned for a particular scheduled delivery.

3.1 Lab Environment Setup and Preparation
Lab environment preparation refers to steps that must be completed ahead of the boot camp delivery to provide
the necessary infrastructure to support the boot camp labs. For this boot camp, labs are conducted on virtual
machine images running on individual standalone student workstations or on an image hosted on the OPN internal
Cloud.
Lab environment preparation consists of:


environmental requirements and can provide and configure their personal workstation accordingly.


along with instructions to prepare their workstations according to the requirements stated in the Hyperion
Planning 11.1.2 Implementation Boot Camp Data Sheet.pdf file

3.2 Local environment
The Hyperion Planning training is delivered on a windows server 64 bit environment. This requires a minimum of 3.5 gig
of ram to run (excluding that of the Operating system on the Host machine). If run on laptops they should be 64 bit, 8 gig
of ram recommended. Requires 100 gigabytes of disk space to be available, this can be run from a USB drive if required.
The image cannot be retained by the users and will need to be deleted on completion of the course.

Oracle can provide you access to product image. Please find below the process to request the image:

3.3 Hosted Environment
Oracle can support you in rolling the boot camp by providing you access to our OPN Enablement Environment (OPNEC).
Disclaimer: Hosted Environment will be provided based on available capacity and alignment with Oracle strategic
direction.
Before the boot camp delivery the instructor must reserve one OPNEC environment per student and obtain general
array credentials (Username/Password) from the Oracle OPNEC team (WWAC_BOOTCAMP_ENABLEMENT_WW@oracle.com ). The OPNEC team will request the following information to begin
setting up remote environments for students:

Boot camp name and version

Start and end dates

Location (in-class location or live virtual training event)

Number of students

Moderator or instructor contact information (name, email address, phone)

Student contact information (name and email address). This information may not be known
during initial contact with OPNEC for environment registration. However, prior to boot camp
delivery, OPNEC needs to establish general array VPN access for each student and will need the
student contact information.

Instructor should read the OPNEC Access Instructions.
To support the hosted option environment, student workstations must meet these specifications:

Note: This is software is installed by default with XP and Vista installations. If the selection of this
option was overridden at OS install time or if this feature was removed post OS installation, it must be
added from Control Panel which may require the original OS install CD/DVD. In XP by default,

This boot camp provides material that can be distributed in a printed or electronic format depending on the class type
(in class or live virtual).
Documents can be printed using any available printing service. Following are some best practices:




Print cover pages in color on glossy cardstock
Black and white is sufficient for document files
Print Student Manual in duplex as it is a lengthy file
Bind printouts using spiral binding as it lays flat when in use.
Some alternatives for electronic material distribution include:





Burn to CD/DVD and distribute to each student in class
Copy to portable media (e.g. USB drive) and “pass around the room” at the beginning of class
Email to students prior to class.
As a convenience – the boot camp materials for Hyperion Planning are also stored on the local D:\ Drive on the
virtual image when connected via Remote Desktop.
